4.0 out of 5 stars well, how cute is this!
I first looked at this book, not expecting to find anything new but I was truly pleased with this book. It has a lot of different styles from the basic socks that I love to make for newborns to a number of more stylish items like hats. I have to be honest, I'm not into that too cutesy-cutesy baby stuff but this book has a high cute factor without make the baby look...

3.0 out of 5 stars Well, the hat is cute anyway
I was excited when I saw the hat on the cover. Unfortunately, there wasn't a lot more for me to get excited about. The hat seemed to be the highlight of the book (my opinion). There's quite a few felted items and personally, I wouldn't want to put felted hats or booties on babies. Here's a quick rundown of the items in the book so you know what you're getting. (I hate...

(I hate it when there aren't any pictures or index's of the items available!)

1. Bumblebee Socks - bumblebees dangling from ends of laces are cute.

2. Baby Beret (cover)- shows example for boy too

3. Simply Chenille - basic beanie with i-cord, knit from top down

4. Felted Flapped Derby - cute with ear flaps, felted

5. Make Way for Ducklings - busy duckling hat with duckling dangles

6. Felted Fooshies - booties, felted

7. Felted High-Tops - "high top" booties, felted

8. Jester Hat - two different examples

9. Kyle's Kap - newsboy cap

10. Ladybug Socks - ladybugs dangling from ends of laces

11. Lettuce-Edge Booties - knit flat, garter stitch with "frilly" edge

12. Puppy Slippers - with floppy ears, nose and tongue, felted

13. Felted Sliper Socks - look similar to ballerina slippers without the laces and sock knitted inside, felted

14. Little Speckled Toes - basic socks knit with speckled yarn

15. Striped Stocking Cap - basic stocking cap

I have to be honest, I'm not into that too cutesy-cutesy baby stuff but this book has a high cute factor without make the baby look silly. Your choice of yarns and colours used with determine how trendy your baby will look.

Good value for the money: a lot of patterns for hats, booties and socks. Wide range of sizes, so you have lots of choice. Most are styles that suit girls, but if you are knitting for a boy, you will still be able to find some good patterns.

4.0 out of 5 stars Uniquely cute hat patterns, July 21, 2004
This review is from: Knit Baby Head & Toes! 15 Cool Patterns to Keep You Warm (Hardcover)
I bought this book for the beret featured on the cover (It's the only one I could find anywhere.) It turned out really well and even better after I looked closely at the pictured and noticed that they had put a thin elastic cord behind the picot edge (it doesn't say to do this in the instructions :( .) About half the book is for socks and booties (I'm not keen on socks as is, but some of the booties are neat.) But the beret pattern plus a striped stocking cap and cute (not fuddy) jester hat are all I need to keep me happy with the book. But I especially love the intro, which has very helpful info and tips that should be included in every basic how to knit book, but are somehow overlooked, i.e. how to weave in the ends without using a needle and how to hide color jogs and changing colors. Overall, this book was worth the money, especially for less than the cover price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay for a few things, March 20, 2006
This review is from: Knit Baby Head & Toes! 15 Cool Patterns to Keep You Warm (Hardcover)
I like the book because it has some really cute patterns in it for hats and booties, but there is a lot of felting and I don't particularly want to felt every item I make. I also think that for babies people should stick with softer, less irritating fabrics like cotton. While the designs are nice, I would recommend using different material for the unfelted designs and seriously consider how sensitive the baby may be before using the felting designs

Bought this book to make baby booties for craft shows and friends. Found there are more out there patterns than there are simple elagent patterns. All the patterns are great. Most of them are pretty easy. Love the hats that match the booties. It is a good book. Just not what I was looking for. I on';y use about three of the patterns in the whole book.

Darling Book! The Photos are very helpful. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. The beret on the cover is so cute knitted up and is great for either boy or girl babies. I knit it for a friend's grandson and it was the hit of the baby shower. Everyone was so impressed and I'm just a so-so knitter. I blocked it using a saucer and a squirt bottle. I did it in light blue and cream. Darling!
