4.0 out of 5 stars An Interesting "Yarn"
I liked this book 2 in the Black Sheep series, but I have to be honest, book 1, Icould not put down!!! I pre-ordered it, and could not wait to get it,but was not as "into it" as I was with While My Pretty One Knits! I felt a "detachment" w/ the characters in Knit Purl Die...Like I was watching everything play out at a distance. The prior book made me feel like I was right...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not my favorite mystery
This book was very disappointing. I knew who the murderer was from the very beginning. Also, the characters were not memorable. I took the next book in the series off my wish list. I like the Seaside Knitting Mysteries much better.

Book 2 maybe doesn't go that "deep" with the women, as the author feels we "know" them well enough by now.Still, I was somewhat let down.I really like this author, and surely will read her follow-ups in this series. It is again, a good cozy, and worth reading.

This author has become a part of my "mystery list" favorite. Character development is excellent and by the end of the story I'd felt as though they were friends. The mystery and plot kept me reading til the end. Recommended series!

3.0 out of 5 stars Spoiler to book one is in this book!!, October 2, 2011
This review is from: Knit, Purl, Die (Black Sheep Knitting Mystery) (Paperback)
Well , the author and Amazon lost my potential business for buying the first book in the series because.....about 2/3 the way in to this book the author tells you "Whodunnit" from the first mystery!! NO other cozy writer who has a series of books has done this, and I have read many now. They may allude to the first mystery but it is ALWAYS done in a rather obscure way. Obviously, so that if you are reading out of order, which many people do for varying reasons) , you can STILL READ the other books and be surprised!!
Other than that , this book was "OK" which is why I gave it 3 stars. I too, guessed the culprit early on. I thought that the author made the victim out to be a sort-of-saint though, considering her actions of the past, which weren't too ethical or moral (stealing someone else's husband, for one). I don't think she was worthy of being beautified.
The women "slueths" are likeable enough, if bland. There is NO romance to speak of in this book; maybe I missed the beginning romance of Lucy and her BF from book one (which I now won't be reading). Oh that's right -I already said that.
Don't buy this book if your funds are limited, just get it from the library if you can.

I loved this one also. You want to be friends with these women. You want to learn to knit or continue knitting. But you don't have to know anything about knitting to love this story.

1.0 out of 5 stars I figured out who did it way too soon, July 16, 2011
This review is from: Knit, Purl, Die (Black Sheep Knitting Mystery) (Paperback)
I read a lot of mysteries written by many authors. I like the ones that keep me guessing right up until the last chapter. Unfortunately, this is not one of them. About 2/3 of the way through, I had it figured out, so this was a real disappointment. I felt like the clues jumped right off the page & hit me in the head.

None of the characters had any depth to them. To me, this book felt like some of the Readers Digest Condensed books I used to read. After finishing them, I always wondered what was missing. That's how these characters were, as well as the plot. Things were hinted at, but never fleshed out - like the bad relationship with the police dective, but he's barely mentioned and plays no part in this story at all. Maybe if he did appear, the story would have some tension.

We didn't learn much of anything about the victim, there were so few characters in the story it was easy to pick out who did it, and none of the main characters were very interesting. It's like they were cardboard cutouts - 2-dimensional. I felt that if the group didn't knit together, they'd have nothing in common at all and would not be friends. Usually in a mystery, there's some suspense regarding the main character(s), some sense of danger. These ladies did nothing but talk & knit. A waste of time reading this. I won't read another of her books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Knit, Purl, Die, February 21, 2010

Gloria Sterling has a fairy-tale life. Rich and beautiful, she has recently remarried. Known for her escapades, even her remarriage makes news--her new husband is gorgeous and twenty years younger. But when Gloria is found dead in her swimming pool, the fairy tale comes to an end.

It turns out there are plenty of suspects. Inevitably, the husband is always the first suspect and he was the talk of the town by those who refused to believe the marriage had been a love match. Then there was the local attorney who had been Gloria's prior lover. Finally, all that money was left to her by her prior husband, and he made that money in real estate. There were many in Plum Harbor, where Gloria lived, who felt that his fortune was built on their misfortune.

Gloria had recently joined a circle of five friends that called themselves The Black Sheep. The group was centered around all the participant's love of knitting. There was Maggie, who owned the local knitting shop. Suzanne was a real estate agent, while Dana is a psychologist. Lucy is a graphic designer while Phoebe is a college student who lives over the knitting shop and works there. When the police decide that the death is an accident, the group starts to put suspicious events together and decides that the death must have been a murder. They each use their unique talents to bring another piece to the puzzle of Gloria's death.

Knit, Purl, Die is the second book in the Black Sheep mystery series, and would be considered to be on the cozy part of that genre. The characters are interesting and their interplay and demonstration of true female friendship is fascinating for the reader to follow. This book is recommended for mystery lovers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Knit, Snoop, Solve, February 10, 2010
This review is from: Knit, Purl, Die (Black Sheep Knitting Mystery) (Paperback)
Enjoyable murder mystery when members of a knitting group chat, knit, snoop, and solve a murder. This mystery fits the bill of a cozy - there is no "blood and gore", the murder takes place "off scene," and the sleuths are amateurs, not professional investigators. Knit, Purl, Die is also an easy-to-read and entertaining whodunit. Never mind that you might guess the culprit before the very end of the book. The true motives behind the crime will remain a mystery till the end.

I don't knit, but I like the knitting mysteries. I like the cozies. It is true they don't always require deep thought but they are fun. This is the second book in the series and have enjoyed it as much as the first. But I had this one figured out sort of before the end but it did have a twist I didn't expect. A fun read.

5.0 out of 5 stars loved it!, January 30, 2010

This review is from: Knit, Purl, Die (Black Sheep Knitting Mystery) (Paperback)
I enjoyed every aspect of this book. It was light, fun, and truly a page turner. It captured me from the first page. The thing I liked most about the book were the characters. They seemed real, like they could jump off the page, and happen to be living next door. The small town that was depicted, felt very true to life as well. When a book ends, and I feel like I just left some friends, and can't wait to meet up with them again (hopefully a sequel) then I know it was a great book, and that's the feel I got with Knit, Purl, Die. I especially loved the recipes, and knitting ideas at the end. That was different, and was an added, fun surprise.

Enjoy the reading, knitting, and good eating. The pasta dish sounds great!
