1.0 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE, customer has to put the book pages in order, October 16, 2007
Binder shipped unprotected, binder rings opened during the packaging process and scratched and dug into binder cover. Pages NOT IN ORDER. Customer must UNWRAP several packets of chapters and put them in order in the binder, and some pages unnumbered????.

There are a number of REPEAT patterns in different sections of the binder.
They state you get a certain number of pattern stitches, yet they are duplicates. Because a number of pages aren't numbered, you have to spend too much time trying to determine where the pages should actually go.

As for content, I've seen so much better in other books. The DVD is very SHORT and not extensive enough, very POOR on length of time for instruction, they demonstrate the stitch, but NOT the outcome once stitched, VERY, VERY superficial. Camera shots close enough, I will give them that. Only 10 min. of actual lessons, if that !!!

I was not happy with this product at all. I can't recommend this book, aka "kit" to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars A highly recommended pick for any beginner who wants to learn the basics., February 6, 2008
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
A spiral-bound hardcover allows for both easy lay-flat use and quick shelf location with KNIT BOOK: THE BASICS AND BEYOND - a recommended pick for personal or gift use for any knitter. Libraries won't wish the 3-ring binder format but knitters will appreciate the ability to add new projects and stitch cards as wishes, to customize its organization, and to carry it along for quick project reference. The bright, colorful 108 pages of basics include 17 projects on carry-along cards, knit notes, and more. A learn-to-knit DVD included with the package is another exceptional feature, pairing convenience with teaching methods which are far superior to print alone. A highly recommended pick for any beginner who wants to learn the basics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, January 17, 2008
This is a wonderful book especially for a beginner. It is very well organized with projects that utilize the skill from each chapter placed after that chapter. And while you do have to put the project pages in after the chapters that in no way detracts from this very good resource.
