Book Description

September 1, 2008
No one expects to be told they have Multiple Myeloma at age 48, especially not the month they have moved their family half way across the country from New Jersey to St. Paul.

As Gerry Landy's back pain worsened, the phrase Multiple Myeloma crept into his family's consciousness, threading through every part of their new Minnesota existence.

Drawing heavily on his wife, Annie Modesitt's, knitting blog, this memoir of a one family's year draws the separate strands of their struggles, victories, and small joys together into a compelling and encouraging narrative.

We can t choose the disease, but we CAN choose hope.

This review is from: Knit with Courage, Live with Hope (Paperback)
I really enjoy Annie Modesitt's work and her sometimes unorthodox approach to knitting (I guess nobody ever told her you can't knit a candy dish or a lawn chair). I admire the range of her interests and designs, and hope to meet her someday. Years ago she was very helpful to me as I knitted a lace hat of her design. I wanted to offer to edit her books as the first couple I read really needed proofreading and cleaning up, but still, I appreciated the effort.

This book, much more polished, is a very personal account of a horrendously difficult stage of Annie's and her family's life and the place knitting has in it. It took courage to live that life and courage, as well, to write about it. Kudos and good luck to a special member of the knitting community.
