Use of after market products with carseats,

I am a pediatric nurse and carseat technician. I would encourage parents to check with manufacturers of their carseats before using aftermarket products such as the ones shown above. Headrest that come with carseats are designed to not interfere with harness function. Most after market products change harness fit.But most important-ATTEND A CARSEAT CLASS AND HAVE A CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN ASSIST YOU IN INSTALLING YOUR SEAT IN YOUR CAR AND TEACHING YOU HOW TO SECURE YOUR CHILD IN THE SEAT. Please visit www.nhtsa.gov for information on carseat safety and TECHNICIAN LOCATIONS. Carseat angle (to protect infant airway) and correct use and installation for each ride is so important.

just one thing...,
This review is from: Knit Double Headrest - Chambray Denim (Baby Product)
These headrests work really well. We bought one for my son because his carseat didn't come with one. Just be aware that if you purchase this separately from your carseat and you're in an accident, the carseat manufacturer cannot be sued, because you're using their carseat "incorrectly" by adding your own headrest to it. That's what we were told by the firemen who checked our carseat and an employee at Babies R Us. I'm not saying don't buy the headrest, because it does cushion a baby's head well, especially a newborn's. It's just something to think about.

Yes this double headrest is not approved for your car seat. Most are not unless they were manufactured and used in the crash test with your car seat. No accessory for a car seat is approved because that would be nearly impossible to do since they all need to be crash tested with your individual car seat. And by law the hospital has to tell you they are not approved. And those who make car seats care only about making sure their car seat won't harm your child. They can care less about the accessories millions of us buy every year.
What does that mean? Well that means we all have to use our brains. If your childs head drifts to one side and slams into the car seat frequently when you drive, slow down. Remember this was crash tested and passed. If you install this little gadget and the head stops rolling around, you are probably safe for the most part. But you are certainly taking a risk since it has not "officially" been tested in a crash while using your car seat. But think about that for a second, has all the other accessories in your vehicle been crash tested with the car seat. What about the hot coffee you have in the front seat, wouldn't that burn the child in a crash. How about the cell phone glued to your ear, wouldn't that distract the driver and cause harm to your child. Or how about mountain of groceries neatly secured in "paper" bags in the back of your fancy SUV. Won't those cans of soup or 2 liters become projectiles and do harm to your child, probably. The question is how far you go to be safe. I would hardly worry about this little harmless piece of cloth harming my child. It's just a huge disclaimer so no one gets sued in my opinion. I liked it and felt like it helped my kid. But I felt bad using it, after all our kids need more tummy time in order to build up those neck muscles that make it necessary to endure such strain.

Not Safe,

I took a baby safety course from a local police department before my son was born. I was cautioned about using these types of products because your babies head should be directly against the car seat. I was told to cut the backing out, which I did because I had already discarded the receipt. Save your self money, and use rolled up recieving blankets. Even after cutting the backs out, these did not work as well as rolled up recieving blankets.

This is an ok product. I bought it to keep my sons head from bouncing around when we drive. But then I found the Snuzzler and I liked it much better. It cradles his entire body and that seems to support his head and neck much better. Plus, it adds a little warmth in the carseat during the winter.
