Debbie Macomber's words of wisdom, September 5, 2007
This review is from: Knit Together: Discover God's Pattern for Your Life (Hardcover)
Knit Together is bestselling romance author, Debbie Macomber's, first foray into non-fiction. Part memoir, part motivational, part instructional, Knit Together is a complete blessing.
Each chapter is named for a facet of life Debbie believes we've been fashioned for. Titles include: Created for Purpose, Created for Dreams, Created for Risks, Created for Gratitude, and Created for Worship. Scripture passages as well as personal anecdotes combine with her insight on each subject.
In Created for Work, Debbie shares her daily schedule, including the fact she rises each morning at four o'clock and spends an hour and a half in prayer and Bible Study. Created for Blessing is a study in both accepting and extending grace and blessing others.
In Created for Relationships, Debbie talks about seeking out encouragers and being an encourager to others.
Scattered sidebars give examples of how knitting relates to life. A skein of yarn is a bundle of potential waiting to be turned into something beautiful. We may mishandle a relationship, treating it like a 100% wool afghan that's undergone the wrong cleaning method. Neither will be quite the same again.
Knit Together is a good fit with other inspirational and motivational titles such as The Purpose Driven Live by Rick Warren, If You Want To Walk On Water by John Ortberg, and The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale.
The forward by Liz Curtis Higgs was especially illuminating for me. Liz describes her first meeting with Debbie: "Instead of treating me like a wannabe, she saw me as a gonnabe." I had the exact same experience when I met Liz in person. The ripples of blessing Debbie Macomber bestowed on Liz Curtis Higgs spread to me and I pray I've passed it on to others as well.
Armchair Interviews agrees: This is a wonderful book.

Simplicity is the best part about this book..., October 1, 2007
This review is from: Knit Together: Discover God's Pattern for Your Life (Hardcover)
I must admit I do not read a lot of fiction and had not heard of Debbie Macomber before picking up this book. I really liked the fact that I could finish a chapter in a short period of time and it would fill me for the day. I felt that the simplicity was one of the best parts about the book. Some inspiration based books can often be too long and too deep and if you are not in the right mind frame can be very hard to get into. Not so with this book. I found it just right to pick up in the morning, read a chapter, have thought for the day and still feel good. It really touched home on a lot of things with me. I actually felt like Debbie could be someone that lives across the street from me that I could become good friends with. I look forward to reading some of Debbie's fiction and hope that "Knit Together" will have a companion book. P.S. I did not feel that she was singling out any religions (as a previous reviewer suggested.) I feel "Knit Together" is just a good, basic Christian women's book not matter what part of the Christian community one belongs to.

Knit Together, September 19, 2007
This review is from: Knit Together: Discover God's Pattern for Your Life (Hardcover)
I loved this book. As I was reading I felt almost as if Debbie and I were friends and just chatting. Her love for God is profound and her writing such a blessing. This book is encouraging, insightful, and uplifting. It is filled with so many ideas for becoming closer to God and even a little more organized with ideas for goal setting. I will probably read again and I will certainly recommend it to others.
