If you haven't been invited to the wedding of the decade (and I know it's only 2011, but it's still probably going to be the wedding of the decade), you can knit your own version of it.

Knit Your Own Royal Wedding by Fiona Goble is a collection of patterns based on dolls that are easy to knit with knit clothes. The introduction explains a bit about the wedding of Kate and William, then a short section explaining what supplies you'll need to knit the wedding. Needle sizes are in both UK and US so you can be sure of getting the right gauge, accessories are made from beads, sequins, ribbon, wire and tiny buttons. There is an overview of how to knit that's clearly diagrammed if you are a complete beginner to knitting and instructions for sewing together the dolls and clothes.

The basic pattern for the dolls is easy enough for a novice knitter to make, and quick to stitch for someone with some experience. If you are a complete beginner, you should be able to finish at least William and Kate by 29 April 2011, a more experienced knitter will be able to do quite a bit more.

The cute! Seriously, I can't get over the cute. Prince Harry, Prince Phillip, Prince Charles and of course, Prince William all in their dress uniforms. The Archbishop in his vestments with embroidered details, Camilla with her handbag and little ribbon rose brooch, the Queen with her pearls, and of course Catherine, the bride, with a little rhinestone engagement ring and a wire tiara. All the tiny details just make this set of dolls irresistible. Even if you aren't a royal watcher, you may want the patterns just to make dolls for yourself. Each doll pattern has an explanation of who it is, and in the case of the uniforms, why they are wearing that uniform.

Okay, so I like to watch royal weddings--all that pomp, all that circumstance! When I saw this book, I fell in love. The figures are so stinkin' cute I can hardly stand it and I NEEDED to have it. Have I mentioned yet that I don't knit? It's a minor quibble. The book is obviously made by someone who has a great fondness for the royal family and the patterns are fun. I might learn how to knit just to make these folks. If you like the royal family, buy it. If you like to knit, buy it. If you want the best royal wedding souvenir ever, buy it. Enjoy!

I probably won't knit my own Royal Wedding, but it's a cute book and the author obviously did a lot of research. It even comes with a "backdrop" of the palace balcony, and additional outfits you can knit. It's a fun memento of the upcoming wedding if you're a "royal-phile".

I find this book excellent and original.
I have a lot of fun because instead of creating
The royal family, I am trying to adapt the characters
to my own family because my son is also getting married.

This charming book has complete patterns and instruction for knitting figures of Prince William and his bride-to-be, Kate Middleton. Also included are Prince Harry, Prince Charles and Camilla, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip and Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury. There's even a corgi, so you can create the Queen's favorite canine friend!

The figures are all knitted using the basic knit and purl techniques and are filled with polyester stuffing. There are illustrated explanations of knitting basics if you need a little assistance with that. Tiny beads, sequins, gems, buttons and more are lovely embellishments to the delightful dolls. Knit Your Own Royal Wedding also contains extra patterns for additional clothes and accessories for the dolls. The author even suggests knitting a version of yourself, so you can attend the regal event as well! The book comes complete with a fold out model of the balcony where the Royal Family will gather to be admired by the crowds below.

Whether you knit or not, Knit Your Own Royal Wedding is a unique memento of this very special occasion!

I noticed the book on Amazon before it was released and wanted it for a souvenir. What could be better than this for a knitter? I never thought I'd actually knit from it! 7 friends decided to go for it and we completed all the dolls in three weeks. I posted the photos above. It is a fun book with great pictures of the dolls in the engagement photo, in the church and on the balcony. The author gives directions for knitting everything flat and seaming them together. To save time we knit in the round whenever we could. This saved a lot of time. There are a lot of pieces to each doll and many finishing details. A tiara, necklaces, feathered hats, medals etc. It would have helped us to have a photo of the back of the dolls to see what the author was going for in some of the patterns. We used worsted weight stash yarn on size 3 needles to try to somewhat get the size the author had using DK weight yarn. We had to expand and remake the balcony that came with the book. All of the dolls would never fit. We had a great time and a lot of laughs with this book. What more can you ask? I'm looking forward to her next book "Twas the knits before Christmas."

This is just too cute! What an idea! The dolls and the clothes are "spot on" lookalikes of the royal wedding party; especially Charles and Phillip. I am going to try to knit a couple of them, the directions are straight forward for anyone with previous knitting experience. Can't wait to get started.
