I was pleasantly suprised with this book. More than a few patterns that I like, as well as being informative about shaping and techniques to flatter your figure. She has added a little extra as well, in that most of the patterns include a 'Look Again' at the pattern, with minor changes made to the pattern and (especially nice) a change of yarn texture/type. For the times you don't buy the specific yarn mentioned, you can get an idea of how the look of the garment changes with a different yarn. Instructions are clear, and easy to follow. Patterns seem to range across advanced beginner and intermediate (IMHO). I've only been knitting for about 5 months and I'm almost done with one pattern, starting on the next. I am pretty pleased. Between my 19 year old daughter and myself, I will be making more than half of the patterns in here.

A note about the pattern sizes:
The sizes all start at 32-40 inch chest, with the exception of one that starts at 30-32 inch. The majority of the patterns go up to fit chest size 44-46 inch. There is only one pattern that goes to a 40-42 inch. There are Two that go up to 46-48 inch and one that goes up to 48-50 inch. I hope this helps!

Being an advanced beginner/intermediate knitter, I've normally knit hats, fingerless mittens, socks and the like; but a friend, who is an expert, challenged me to attempt a sweater. I'm pleased to say I just finished The Great Lengths Coat from this book and I love its fit, style and the ease of the pattern directions.

I don't know the age of the reviewer who stated the patterns seemed for younger women, but I'm 50 and there are several patterns from this book that I will be making for myself in the near future: the Twice as Nice Cardigan, Push the Boat Out Sweater and the Shawl Collered Cardigan, just to name a few. I, too, enjoyed the "Look Again" sections, where the author took the same pattern, altered it slightly, used different yarn and created a whole new look by just changing a few things. It adds so much to the book and helps me look at patterns and styles with new eyes.

The format is lovely, with great photos, clear instructions and fun ideas. Considering I normally get my patterns free off the internet, it's a big deal for me to shell out money for a pattern book. To me, this book was worth it.

Format: Paperback
Stylish knitwear designs for sweaters, tank tops and camisoles that fit and flatter well make for a fine gathering of versatile patterns that have a fine modern finish for women of all sizes, making for a specific knitter's guide that goes beyond the usual 'one size fits all' approach. Variations for edgings, sleeves, and simplifications of classic garment styles makes for a fine gathering of knit projects suitable for any knitter's collection.

If you have had trouble knitting projects by the pattern and having it not fit correctly, this is one of the best books on how to make everything you make fit whoever you are making it for. This kind of book will never go out of style.
