Format: Paperback
I wanted to knit a panda bear and the ones I've got in my other books are either not very good or with hard to understand instructions. The panda bear here is done with the same basic instructions as the others and it looks pretty staight forward. There are full page illustrations in color for front and back views of 15 animals. Yarn used is dk preferably acrylic and my only problem is to get the gauge on size 3.25mm needles of 26 sts= 4". Animals are elephant, giraffe, zebra, lion, tiger, giant panda, monkey, snakes, hipppo, crocodile, rhino, wrthog, koala, koose and penguin. Plenty of info on the techniques used and info on the stuffing which is new to me. I plan on making the elephant first as it looks the easiest one. Most of the animals are about 9.5" in total height. The author comes from Wales and this is her first book. Book is paperback but looks pretty sturdy.
Recommended for all animal and toy knitting collections.

This is much less a review and more a point of information. A previous reviewer stated that the yarn used is DK and that she was having difficulty achieving the gauge that the author gives. I'm going to make a guess that the reviewer is in the United States. where DK means a # 3 yarn, a very light weight worsted, which is between a regular worsted weight # 4 and a sport weight # 2. The author, however, comes from WALES -- which means that her frame of referance is the yarns there. In the UK -- what WE call knitting worsted (example -- good old Red Heart bulletproof worsted # 4) is that THEY call DK or Double Knitting.

If you buy this book -- remember that when you get ready to make the projects. You won't get the right gauge with the wrong yarns, but if you get the right yarns -- you should!

I'm rating it a 4 because it looks very promising and I'm seriously considering adding it into my own collection of knit books. Who WOULDN'T want to knit their own warthog?? what fun!

Warm hugs and woofs,
Maggie & MacTaggart

This book is the greatest! I have made almost every animal in this book and some of them 3 & 4 times. People see them and want me to make them for them.

Clear instructions to make a variety of animals; I liked the snakes with their heavy-lidded eyes and the panda (complete with bamboo!) There are interesting little facts on each animal too.
It's unusual that all the characters (even the leggy ones ie giraffe and zebra) are in a sitting position but somehow this 'humanises' them and makes them even cuter.
