This book starts off with some basic techniques and information on colorwork and motif options. It also has a stitch dictionary that includes cables, gauge, texture and stitch repeats. There are illustrations of different cables, ribs, moss stitch and ribbing.

The patterns start off with hats. Most of them are brightly colored and the styles are varied. My favorite is the Wavy Stripes Slouch in pink and orange. It features "wavy stripes, a circular, cabled brim, and a ruched crown." It is perfect for teenaged girls.

The next section is 'shoulders'. It includes patterns for a backpack, a scarf, two cowls , and a capelet. Again, the patterns are in bright colors. The backpack looks like a fun project in oranges and yellows with a flower pattern on the back.

The next chapter is 'knees'. This chapter includes slouch warmers, leggings, and leg warmers. The leggings cover the hips and are great for cold winter days. There is a pair of asymmetrical leg warmers that I really like. They are bright colors with different patterns on each leg.

The fifth chapter is 'hands'. Here you'll find elbow mitts that are more like warmers as the fingers are not covered, bracelets, fingerless mittens and wrist cuffs. Again, the theme of color, color, color is present.

The next chapter is 'toes'. There is a pair a striped anklet socks, tiered ruffle socks which I really love, funky fair isle socks in four colors, and stranded socks. My favorite pattern in the book are is the pair of tiered ruffle socks.

The author of this book, Kate Oates, is an experienced designer. Interestingly, she holds a PhD. in political science, a far cry from knitting.

This book has some patterns I really like and some I was not crazy about.

This is the best knitting book for children's clothing I have ever encountered! The designs are great and best of all the projects included instructions for older children and teens!

Very nice well written book but I would have liked to see more variety. Most things should be fairly simple to make.
