5.0 out of 5 stars Something for everyone
Nicky Epstein is an extraordinary designer of knit goods. Even if some of her styles are a bit outlandish for your taste (not many dogs would embrace the Hat Scarf and the Serious Skull Cap is a little unnerving), you have got to appreciate the artistry that goes into them. The photographs and directions in this book, as in others by her, are very helpful...

3.0 out of 5 stars Tempting
Well I love all the hats for babies to adults really. Angels for girls and Travelin Man for the boys. Fun to do. Almost all the hats are tempting me. But I have only knit the flower (Travel tag) from this book yet. The shawls and wraps are on my list to do.I have several other books of Nicky's and have had to do corrections so I am wondering how this one will go...

Chapters include projects for men, women, children, pets and charitable organizations. My favorite item of all in the book is her pattern for an infant-sized Reversible Hoodie. I don't even have a baby to knit for, but I'm going to make it anyway, it's that cute! And after that...there's the Diamond Rib Wrap for me. Can't wait to cast on.

The heart shawl is ridiculous and the Love Bag is way outdated..my opinion..
I would suggest people seriously look thru this book. Consider it for several options.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Variety of Inviting Projects, December 1, 2009

Another great book of projects to get your motivation rejuvenated. I'm working on my first project out of this book and I find the directions challenging to follow. So I would have to rate this for people who are more experienced knitters. I'm still glad I bought it as I have a great local yarn shop that is more than willing to help figure things out.

I have a lot of Nicky's books and find them uneven so she is one auther whose books I have to see before buying. I looked long and hard at this one because of some of her earlier flops. I fell in love with a few of the projects here: afghan, diamond rib wrap and lace friendship shawl. Both of these shawls also include sleeves making them quite useful. I like some of her hats like the knitting angel one and the cat one. I should really make the travel tags too. Her yarns don't give the number for size yarn but she does give difficulty levels. You have to rely on gauge without knowing the yarns used in many cases.

2.0 out of 5 stars Meh.., January 28, 2011

I was drawn in by a part of the "about the book" that said it had gifts for people with special needs and for sick people. I am an experienced knitter but the patterns are challenging even for me to read. I think a lot of the patterns are just kind of silly, like the angel hat and the dog hat/scarf. I might try one of the cable hats in the book, but otherwise I wasn't really impressed by many of the patterns. Kind of wish I hadn't purchased this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gift knitting, October 29, 2010
By
Marge (California) - See all my reviews
Knitting a Kiss in Every Stitch: Creating Gifts for the People You Love This is the first book by Epstein I have spent any time looking through and I am very impressed. The quality of the photos, which are incredibly important because a good photo shows the objects to be knitted with enough detail that you can see how the pattern works. Pattern books often are geared to one type of thing, for example, scarves or felting or lace. This book has a variety of styles and items, lace, cable-work, hats, shawls, purses.

Ms. Epstein is known for her knitted embellishments and they are on display here in the Charitable Gift Afghan, the Ruched Mittens, and the Cable and Leaf tote for starters. The patterns are fresh and different and will make lovely gifts for some lucky people.

4.0 out of 5 stars A True Eclectic Mix, April 28, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Knitting a Kiss in Every Stitch: Creating Gifts for the People You Love (Hardcover)
There are a lot of knitting books out now featuring gifty type items to make. Most are pretty thematic in that all the projects seem related. I was really surprised and pleased to see that Ms. Epstein has put together the most diverse collection I've seen yet. The projects range from cute & frothy to Goth & Rock, a person really could find something to make for everyone they know with this book.

Some of the items are a little to crafty looking. The angel hats are sweet but probably not practical and the Heart wrap made me think of a construction paper project I participated in back in the 1st grade. However the vampire/werewolf hats are spot on with todays trends and the bad boy/lacy cuffed socks would be a fun gift to give/receive. The only true misfire I found in the whole book is the 'doggie-boobie' hat. I know those pouches are for ears but the poor thing does look like he's wearing a bra on his head. It's a big sad No!

Eclectic and fun, I know I will have fun making several of the items in here.

4.0 out of 5 stars new addition to my knitting library, April 17, 2010
This review is from: Knitting a Kiss in Every Stitch: Creating Gifts for the People You Love (Hardcover)
I bought this book yesterday after perusing a copy from our local library. The first time I looked through it, I kept saying "I love that! ooh, I love that! I want to make that too!"

This book is a great one for inspiration. I haven't yet followed directions for any of the designs, but at first glance they seem clear. Some of the funkier, artsier stuff will go out of fashion quickly (and some already have), but for the most part, the fancier patterns are timeless, and the children's patterns are fun.

In fact, pretty much the ONLY THING bugging me about this book is that the "Travelin' Man" example hats seem to have their colors reversed. Planes generally won't travel through a green sky.

A caveat: not for the casual knitter. Most projects require more than basic knitting knowledge. But this is a great opportunity to grow, if you have some good LYS help.
