Worth it just to find a few you love.,

So, I received last year's and like many people thought that a lot of the patterns were weird or just variations of the same thing. BUT, there were a few that I used and loved. Had I bought these patterns separately, it would probably have cost me the same. I kept those I thought I would use someday and am offering the rest up on Freecycle.
I bought the 2008. LOTS of kids stuff. Good for those with kids (me). It would be nice if there was some way to see most of what patterns are inside befre buying, kwim? Overall, I think if you get just a few patterns you love, it's worth the price. And, there are pages dedicated to different stitch patterns/techniques, which was a bonus for me.

Use your money to buy yarn instead,

How many mp3 player covers do we need? Are we too stupid to figure out how to make them without a written pattern? Patterns are far too simple and simular patterns can be found free on the internet. What a total waste of money. Next year I'll just use the money to add to my yarn stash.

Knitting patterns,

The knitting patterns are sometimes interesting, sometimes not. There are too many "cutesy" patterns and not enough serious challenges for proficient knitters.

An Improvement....,

But it still has a long way to go. I purchased the 2007 calendar and was greatly disappointed, and was not going to get the 2008 calendar. However, since in was on sale for 50% off, I gave it another chance. While I personally think that there are many more desirable patterns than 2007 (I only liked two patterns the entire year in 2007.) there are many, many repetitive dishcloth patterns, with only slight variations from each pattern. As another reviewer mentioned, there are also numerous knitted animals, people, phone and Ipod decorations, one of those patterns would have been sufficient, rather than dragging them out incessantly through the entire year. It did seem that they had more patterns that carried on for consecutive days than 2007 did. Their photography improved from 2007 and I did find a scarf pattern that I liked and I plan on making a few of the socks. Worthwhile if you can get it 50%off.

This is my first year with this type of calendar and I couldn't be more pleased. So far, I have found quite a few patterns that I would like to make and it is only January. Also, I really enjoy seeing what each new day will bring. There is a nice index with all the patterns sorted by many different categories such as afghans/blankets, socks, baby, hats, kids, etc. etc. There are multiple types of every possible knitted item so I don't really see how you can loose. In terms of the flimsy paper, well what do you expect for such a large number of colored pages (all patterns are in color) at such a reasonable price? You would have to pay a lot more for thicker pages. For me, I will either copy or put into plastic sleeves the patterns I want to keep.

Almost every single pattern in this thing is available free on on the internet. Most of the patterns are dated, ugly, or just plain undesirable. Save your money and do NOT buy this!!!!

Worst in Several Years - Save Your Money,

I've received this calendar as a gift for several years now. The 2008 edition is terrible!!! There is not one pattern in all 366 days that I would consider making. Not only that . . . there are not really 366 patterns. Most patterns are at least 2 days. Also, far too many of them are stuffed animals, or clothes for stuffed animals. For example, there is a pattern for scarf for a stuffed squirrel.
It's obvious that these people have run out of material for this calendar. Take my advice and save your money.

The patterns in here are ok, nothing fantastic. The one thing that annoys me is that they take one pattern, and use it for both Saturday and Sunday, instead of using the two part patterns for the weekends. And there are plenty of two parters. I probably wouldn't buy this next year. I might get the stitch n bitch one instead.

Tries to be hip, but most of the patterns come across as simple, unlovely bazaar items. I liked maybe three things out of the approx. 140 items (my guesstimate). Most pattern instructions spread over 2-3 days. If you have skills, I would avoid this one. I'm going to put mine in the recycle bin.

A Stitch a Day ...,

I was very surprised by all the different patterns in this calendar. Some are for beginners, but most are not. The paper for the daily calendar is extremely flimsy. This is not a "bound" calender so you have to remove the days piece by piece and if you remove too many, they're difficult to get back in without bending.
Still, how can you go wrong with having a new pattern daily? Washcloths, mittens, blankets, socks, hats, ponchos, you name it -- it's all here! There's even a separate section for the abbreviations used for patterns. Great little buy. Knit on, Peeps! |
