Not just for kids, honey,

I checked this book out of the library yesterday and now I'm here adding it to my shopping cart. That's how much I like this book.I am a beginning knitter, and want to teach my kids how to knit. I also was looking for some easy-as-pie projects. This is the book for me. It has goofy little pictures and simple instructions that are aimed twords kids, but I get the feeling that they are directed twords adults, too. This would be a great beginner book for ANY knitter. It doesn't talk down to you like some of the adult teaching books and it doesn't leave you with patterns that are outrageously beyond your comprehension to knit. This book, along with some knitting supplies, would be a great gift for any child. (Or adult)

Great for adults too!,

I also ended up buying this after checking it out from the library first. I couldn't decide between this and Kids Knitting by Melanie Falick so I got both for a 10-year-old. Kids Knitting has some beautiful color pictures and more projects but Kid's Easy Knitting has the basics and is more reasonably priced for someone you're not sure will continue to knit. Each has strengths and weaknesses in how they explain techniques; if you don't understand how they're explaining it in one book, it's helpful to look at the other one. I used both when I couldn't understand the information in "adult" knitting books when I first started knitting.

I received this as my first knitting book about 9 months ago. (I was 17.) I did learn how to knit with it, but it confused me as far as the purl stitch was concerned. The projects look fun and it is probably helpful that the patterns are written in a simplified version of "real" knitting patterns, so you will be used to the format. I have found Knitting by Klutz Press to be much more helpful, however. It has step-by-step, thoroughly illustrated instructions and tips and I would recommend it for beginning knitters.

The patterns look fun, but illustrations could be bette,

I just checked this out from the library, so I haven't actually knit any of the patterns in the book; however, they look pretty fun.
I have been knitting now for about 4 months, and my children want to learn how to knit. I don't see this book as a great book to start with because I don't find the instructional illustrations to be all that helpful. It really is hard to learn to knit from drawings. However, there are some patterns in here that could be really fun to make once you get the basic stitches down. So, if you have a child that wants to learn how to knit, get them rolling by *showing* them how (or by taking them to your local yarn store), then get them this book (or the previously mentioned "Kids Knitting" by Melanie Falick -- it also has great patterns), and turn them loose! Oh, and the one disappointment I have found with both this book & "Kids Knitting" is that it doesn't address Continental-style knitting, only English -- i.e, picking vs. throwing. Continental-style is much faster & much easier for left-handers. Also, this particular book uses drawings instead of photographs to illustrate instructions and finished projects. I'm always leary of that because you never quite know how the projects will turn out. But I do think it looks like fun, and the patterns really should knit up into something useful!!

I checked out quite a few books on knitting so I could decide what to purchase. I'm an adult but my 5 year old son decided he wanted to knit too when he saw the knitting needles as potential weapons and the beautiful colored yarns. I think this is great! I am also going to purchase "Kids Knitting" by Falick and "The Stitch and B______" (I'm not sure I can say the name for a female dog here. This last book might not be appropriate for kids. The top 2 would be great ones for a 12 year old or adult. I liked the Kids Knitting book because there were pictures of boys knitting. I'm amazed but the little guy is actually knitting...some weird looking stitches, but he's having a great time and is very proud of his little strips.

Very Good for Learning,

This book is good instruction for both children and adults. It's true that it does not address continental style, but as a lefty, I've found it not to be true that continental is any easier for lefties than throwing. After all, when lefties learn to crochet we hold the yarn in our right hands :) Either choice is valid, just don't overlook a good book when both styles can be learned at any time. The fun part is to learn to knit!

I bought this book thinking it might give me simple ideas of things to knit. It would be great for someone who wants to learn, not someone that already knows how.
