INTERVIEW ANSWERS- PAY NEGOTIATIONS-SPECIFIC ADVICE!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Knock 'Em Dead 1999 (Paperback)
This book would be a bargain at 10 times the price. It gave my husband the details and resources he needed to conduct an effective job search in the shortest time possible. Further, it gave him the tools he needed to negotiate a better salary.I had spent 6 weeks on-line some 6 hours a day looking at hundreds of ads and sending out over a hundred resumes after my husband was unexpectedly terminated from his job. It wasn't until I read Martin Yate's book that I discovered why the resumes were going unanswered. Using Mr. Yate's advice, we revamped everything. Four weeks later my husband had an offer. A good offer. When the offer came he was ready to negotiate, something he would have never dreamed of doing without reading (over and over again) Mr. Yate's how-to's on the art of salary negotiation. Feeling confident (and armed with a cheat sheet), he negotiated additional salary and benefits to the tune of an additional $25,000 a year. No exaggeration. No kidding. If you're looking for help landing a job, READ THIS BOOK FIRST!

excellent resource,

A friend loaned me this book a week before I had three interviews to go to. It has helped me immensely. It teaches you to read the interviewer in order to see what answers they are looking for from you. I was well qualified for each of the jobs I was interviewing for, but so are a lot of other people. I applied some of the techniques I read in the book and was offered all three jobs. In fact, I was stuck on one question that an interviewer asked me, then the answer the book gave me came to mind, I used it and the interviewer looked at me and said "that's a very good question; that is exactly the answer I was looking for". I only got halfway through the book before the interviews, but it was invaluable to me. I came to this site to purchase a copy for myself and two of my friends and was dissappointed to see that it is not currently in print. I would recommend it to anyone (who can find a copy), even if you are not interviewing. It has lots of tips that will help you have the attitude needed to move forward in today's business world.

The best book for most -- but not all -- job hunters,
By A Customer
This review is from: Knock 'Em Dead 1999 (Paperback)
This book deserves its great reputation, with tips that really work for all stages of the job hunt. Both my husband and I have used these techniques to land the jobs of our choice in the past. The very thorough chapters on interviewing are probably the highlight of the book. They are a godsend for the shy job seeker with great qualifications who has trouble selling himself. My biggest criticism is that the book is mostly geared to white-collar workers, especially ones aspiring to traditional, well-defined positions in private business. It is not as useful for people looking for more hands-on work or for people with specialized skills (academics, etc.) who are looking for more specific jobs in a smaller field. The other problem is that the book has hardly been updated at all since the last edition I used, from the late '80s. If you only buy one book, this should probably be it, but you might want one or two others: try "What Color is Your Parachute" for more info on identifying your skills and choosing the right career.

The Best Bang for Your Buck,
By A Customer
This review is from: Knock 'Em Dead 1999 (Paperback)
The job interview prep chapters in this book are the best I have seen. I was able to tailor the answers to fit my specific needs. Don't worry if your work history is meager. You can still do well. This book landed me a great job. That's all I need to know to recommend it.

I bought this book along with the "Knock 'Em Dead Resume" by the same author and two weeks later I had two job offers for major companies in Northwest. I have been trying to get jobs with these employers for almost 7 months and after using the advice in Yate's book - I finally landed great jobs. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for new jobs or changing career. After all if I can do it anyone can because I am 8 months pregnant and with help of this book I am looking forward to having a great career and becoming a mom.

I was amazed at how much information this book contains. I was especially impressed with the "In Depth" section that talks about searching for that new job while still employed. I can definitely see why this book is on the New York Times Business Bestseller list.

If you really want that job, this will put you on top.,

Two days before my job interview, a friend suggessted this book. I picked it up and read the interview questions and answers and studied them. The questions are broad in scope, but the author tells you what the interviewer is really asking. I had five interviews in a row that day and each one asked me almost the same questions that were in his book. I was direct and brief because I knew exactly how I would answer each question. I got the position I wanted and beat out six other candidates. It was the best $10 I ever spent even though I only had two days to prepare. It also helped me with a follow up letter to the interview. Good Luck!

Be a robot. If you do exactly what Martin Yate says, you will find the job you've been looking for. His formula works.

Mr. Yate's books have been my bibles in the job search process. Ever since 1990, when I first entered the official job market, the knock em dead series has been a source of insight into what lies in the minds of interviewers. I felt like Mr. Yate was sitting at my side, coaching me through each potential pitfall. As a result, I have landed jobs at some of the most prestigious companies in the US. The most recent success happened in the space of less than one month (including preparatory ground work). I am now working for a wonderful department in an international corporation, and working with people I admire and respect. Just keep visualizing and with Mr. Yate in your corner....anything is possible! -An extremely satisfied customer (SM)

Very over-rated book,

Not a good book if you are looking for government, non-profit, or academic work. It needs more real life interview questions and less fluff such as how to walk or whether or not to cross your legs.
