4.0 out of 5 stars This book offers great tips for getting the job you want.
We've all seen the rows and rows of these job-hunting books at the bookstore. I found this one particularly insightful. It is well organized and that structure works well for the intended reader (a job hunter). We've all seen the rows and rows of these job-hunting books at the bookstore. I found this one particularly insightful. It is well organized and that structure works well for the intended reader (a job hunter). When job hunting, there are times when you have all the time in the world to casually flip through chapters... Then there are times when you frantically rifle through it, looking for the *one* stage you're dealing with right then! I used this book the last time I was looking for a job and it had the answers I sought at each stage, and gave me peace of mind to be slightly more relaxed during the interview process. (I got the job) There are good tips on unconventional methods of getting your foot in the door of a company that you like. Most valuable to me were: Tips on dressing for an interview. Tips on negotiating salary (very helpful).

I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Guide to Success, September 17, 1998
This review is from: Knock 'Em Dead 1998 (Serial) (Paperback)
I have used this book as my job-seeker's bible for years now (I still have the 1993 version) and would highly recommend it to anyone who is serious about getting the job. Yate hits the nail on the head when it comes to preparing for the tough questions and regarding sending correspondence to prospective employers. I am planning on buying the 1998 version immediately because I know he will keep me moving with the current trends. By the way, I have been offered every job I have interviewed for since I read the book and I absolutely credit his insights and suggestions.

5.0 out of 5 stars I got offers from almost every job after I read this book., October 16, 1998

This book will change the way you interview. This book helped me better understand what interviewers were looking for and the types of answers they wanted. I learned it's not as much the precise words you use but the way you answer the questions. I even made a "cheat sheet" of the best 20 questions with quick answers that I kept in my portfolio and would look at while waiting for my interviews. 12 years later I still use this book and buy it for every friend who's looking for a job. It's right on the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars A complete guide for job-seekers, July 16, 1998

This review is from: Knock 'Em Dead 1998 (Serial) (Paperback)
It gives great insights on how-to look for a job, especially on the interview, the author tells you how to behave, what to say, what is expected from you, tricky questions your future employer may ask you and how to answer them painlessly. Also it provides several resources on job hunting, like web sites, associations, etc. If you are not satisfied at your present job or don't have one this book is a must.

5.0 out of 5 stars The 'Real Expert' in Job Hunting in the 90s and Beyond, November 15, 1997
This review is from: Knock 'Em Dead 1998 (Serial) (Paperback)
Every year I continually puchase the updated version of Knock 'Em Dead. He gives you the solid technicques to get a job. He tells you questions that are asked, how to dress, the works. What makes him unique is every year he updates his book. If you buy the others, you're foolish. Story just to say how powerful this book is, I volunteer at a branch in the Dallas library system, and a woman came to me and said she needed to find a book on interviewing. I recommended Martin Yate, she bought the updated copy in the bookstore - came back to the library the following week, hugged me and said she landed the job - and wrote the resignation letter to the boss from down under... He is the best of all of them!!! If you still have doubt, dare you ask if he tells you how to answer the 'killer question', Tell Me About Yourself...That is one of 100+ he covers with detailed answers he gives you, and then you change it a little, and next thing you know... you're hired...just like that! And so, buy his book, and tell the other people you know who purchased other books on job hunting to read it and weep... You won't regret it!!!!
