Editorial Reviews

Perhaps no female group marketed out of Nashville is as puzzling as Shedaisy, the Mormon siblings who named their trio after an American Indian word for "my sisters." Wrongfully compared to the banjo-and-fiddle-driven Dixie Chicks upon the release of their debut album, The Whole Shebang, in 1999, the Osborns emerge on this follow-up in all their full-blown poppiness, leaving not only the Chicks behind, but also such vaguely country performers as Faith Hill and Martina McBride. Far more beat-heavy and rhythm-based than the album that produced the hit "Little Good-Byes," Knock on the Sky showcases more of their impressively intricate harmony vocals and attitude ("Get Over Yourself"), the latter finding more in common with Britney Spears and her ilk than any Nashville counterparts. It says a lot that Richard Marx shares a writing credit with chief songsmith, Kristyn, on one of the album's most memorable and melodic tunes, "All Over You." But while much of the program gets the blood pumping, the majority of songs have the depth of a birdbath, and often sound constructed, not written, with a reliance on hokey sound effects such as a scanning radio dial and a not-too-credible tent-revival preacher. Granted, Shedaisy court the younger audience, but why should a teenager settle for mere grooves and harmony, no matter how skillfully it's layered? --Alanna Nash

5.0 out of 5 stars Sensational! June 29, 2002
By Deanna
Format:Audio CD
On SHeDaisy's second album, the three sisters, Kristyn, Kassidy and Kelsi Osborn, belt out sassy tunes and deep, heartfelt lyrics. The lead singer, Kristyn, wrote the songs "Keep Me" and "The First To Let Go" and co-wrote all of the other songs. So, obviously, these are some very talented ladies!
I love the beautiful tranquillity of "Rush." It's the best on the album. I also really enjoy the bold song "Get Over Yourself." It's very fun and cheeky! Other outstanding songs on the CD are "Mine All Mine," "I Wish I Were the Rain," "All Over You" and "I'm Lit."
Overall, "Knock On the Sky" is an excellent sophomore release from SHeDaisy. I recommend this album very highly. It's amazing!

5.0 out of 5 stars The girls of SHeDAISY got it all right June 27, 2002
Format:Audio CD
With this cd, the girls of SHeDAISY have solidified themselves as their own genre. While certainly not a pop group, they can't quite be categorized as country either, as these girls have meshed pop, rock and country into something that is amazingly unique. With solid lyrics, and constant harmonizing between the three girls, the expertly played instruments are well accompanied.
Although it seems that a few songs follow the same formula (which is in no way a bad one, mind you), this cd keeps the freshness and surprises coming. "I'm Lit" grasps the `girl on the edge' theme both musically and lyrically for a surprising second track. "Get Over Yourself" is one of my favorite SHe songs. This absolutely awesome in-your-face song has tons of energy, complete with a tight guitar solo as well.
Normally, I don't like slow songs. But even after the energetic "Get Over Yourself" I was blown away by the beauty of "Rush." This is one of the most heartfelt songs I've ever heard, which is best enjoyed when the lyrics are read while listening.
But my absolute fave track is "Turn Me On". The energy in this track is unbelievable. The bass guitar part totally floors me when I listen to this song, and the lyrics are absolutely hilarious.
I HIGHLY recommend "Knocking on the Sky." With funny are heartfelt lyrics, great vocals with constant harmonizing, along with plenty of great instrumental moments, it clearly sets SheDAISY apart from the rest.

5.0 out of 5 stars These Girls Can Sing! August 2, 2002
Format:Audio CD
Occasionally an act will grab my attention that is outside of the blues genre. Shedaisy is one of those acts. Shedaisy's refreshing and sometimes humorous, take on their life experiences is something to behold. Yes, it's easy to bash this disc if you bought it expecting to hear something purely country. Plain and simple, this is not country in the strictest sense. But Shedaisy realizes that their brand of music, a kind of pop/country mix, reaches more than those wearing cowboy hats, creased lee jeans and silver belt buckles the size of manhole covers. To try to pigeonhole acts now days is more and more difficult and really nonsensical as it overlooks what the artist is trying to convey. In this case, these girls are immensely talented. Not only did Kristyn Osborn write or co write every song on this disc but the complexity of each tune clearly transcends the simplistic hooks found in your everyday pop and/or country disc. Also, to their credit is the fact that they are all multi instrumentalists and harmonize beautifully. If you want country, find Shania, if you want to have little fun and an enjoyable disc, buy this. After all, where else can you hear three Mormon girls singing joyously about being lit!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Album! Well-Worth the 3 Years June 27, 2002
Format:Audio CD
Knock on the Sky is an excellent album that has a perfect mix of tracks to satisfy any listener. Kristyn Osborn proves herself to be an extremely talented song writer, creating touching ones like "Rush" and "First to Let Go" and upbeat-themed gems like "I'm Lit" and "Turn Me On." Kassidy, Kelsi and Krisytn's harmonies are beautifully demonstrated on this album also. Knock on the Sky is more mature content-wise, than The Whole SHeBANG, in that many of the songs were written based on Kristyn's rough times with a divorce. Overall the album is perfect and was well worth the wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars Knock On The Sky - An album like no other! June 25, 2002
Format:Audio CD
Three years in the waiting for SHeDAISY's follow up to "The Whole Shebang"...and as the saying goes, `good things come to those who wait'. But "good" really doesn't apply when speaking of this sister trio's latest release, Knock On The Sky. It's safe to say that words do not exist to describe this emotion-packed and yet, exceedingly delectable album.
The exceptionally, intricate lyrics weave you through a myriad of emotions and take you for a whirlwind ride throughout the album. It's not often to come by a song that pulls you into its lyrics...wraps it's melody around you, and inundates you with feelings that completely absorb your being. But that's exactly what you experience when listening to, "Knock On The Sky." The songs range from the upbeat and power-packed "Get Over Yourself" to the melodic and heartfelt "Rush". SHeDAISY spared no expense in covering the full spectrum of life's emotional roller coaster ride. I don't think I have ever heard songs as intricately mastered, and yet, as heart-felt and easy to understand as the words written by the groups main lyricist, Kristyn Osborn. The 3rd track on the album, "Man Going Down", sounded reminiscent of a Fleetwood Mac tune...and for that, I loved it even more. Each song was it's own entity; it was a joyous adventure traveling from track to track, not knowing what emotions I would be experiencing next. To pick a favorite would be unfair. There is no favorite, because in my own opinion...this album cannot be separated into parts. It is the whole album which makes it the true perfection that it is.
It's safe to say that SHeDAISY could be in a genre all their own. In the hundreds and hundreds of albums I have purchased in nearly the past 2 decades...nothing has come close to being as fresh, complete, and as heavenly, as "Knock On The Sky".
