The action takes place over one night. A low life has a large debt to syndicate gamblers. They threaten to kill him if the debt is not paid infull by the morning. So the lowlife tries to get it from his wife. Who refuses to dip into her savings. This sets the lowlife off in a panic. All is sttled after a few twists and turns. This short novel was the basis for one of Boris Karloff's Thriller weaker episodes.
