Alan Russo (Cambridge, MA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Knock Three Times - 20 Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I have 11 compilations of Tony Orlando & Dawn and this one is good! It contains 15 biggest charted hits all in their LP versions including Cupid (rare CD version) and Steppin' Out (Gonna Boogie Tonight). Tracks include: Candida, Knock Three Times, I Play And Sing, Summer Sand, What Are You Doing Sunday, Runaway/Happy Together, Vaya Con Dios, You're A Lady, Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Ole Oak Tree, Say Has Anybody Seen My Sweet Gypsy Rose, Who's In The Strawberry Patch With Sally, Steppin' Out, Look In My Eyes Pretty Woman, He Don't Love You and Cupid were all arrainged in cronological order. The next 5 tracks were not hits and aren't in any order. They include You Say The Sweetest Things, Look At, Country, Up On The Roof and The Look In Your Eyes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tony Orlando has been kicked around TOO LONG! Fabulous CD, August 27, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Knock Three Times - 20 Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
For everyone who has ever told a joke for which Tony Orlando and/or DAWN was the punchline: get a life! Tony Orlando was for 20 years (60's and 70's) one of THE hardest working men in showbiz first recording classic early rock-n-roll hits at The Brill Building ("Bless You" Etc) where he often recorded not only solo hits but demos of Carole King classics like "Will you still love me tomorrow" but then he went on to chart over 20 wildly popular hits with variations of a back-up Group collectively known as "Dawn" although the star was always Tony's latin-laced pop-voice. Then, he and Dawn went on to star in an enormously popular TV Variety Show modeled on The Sonny and Cher show which showcased his comedic talents and that ultimately brought him together with Freddie Prinze who became both his closest friend and who's death in a questionable accident/suicide caused Tony to unravel, hit bottom and ultimately decide to leave showbiz altogether. He is now one of the most in demand performers in Brason, Missouri the showbiz heavan for Pop/country acts with loyal fan followings amongst everyday people. So, laugh if you want, but Tony has the love and respect of everyone else but YOU! For those of you who DO love Tony... This CD is a nice cross-section of Dawn's hits and is significant because unlike Arista's Definitive Collection (also worth buying and available here on Amazon) it includes Tony's supberb update of the Sam Cooke Classic, "Cupid" which sports a very unique arrangement. The electric Piano on "Cupid" dates it a little but to me it's part of that single's charm. Go ahead and get over your guilt at loving Tony and Dawn. Indulge your childhood memories of dancing with your siblings to "Knock Three Times"! Give in to your nostalgia and grab this CD while it's still in print and see "Candida" every night in your dreams. You will not be sorry and maybe you even have news of Tony's "Sweet Gypsy Rose".

Especially to the other two reviewers, yes indeedy Tony Orlando and Dawn were and are quintessential to the early seventies.I still get annoyed when people either rubbish or try to apologise for the seventies.FACT:We were there,it all happened and it was ... good!We entered another transitional phase in music and I for one was proud to be in the industry-selling records, from 1964 until the end of 1973.My only minor grizzle;I wish they'd included "I didn't mean to love you so good Juanita" That track should have been a single. All the best from Russ in New Zealand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tony Orlando Greates Hits, April 21, 2004

This review is from: Knock Three Times - 20 Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I grew up in the mid west during the time and area of the 70's show. These were the song of those great day of the past. Knock Three Times, Candida, Tie Ribbon" Back when true American muscle cars had power and big cadilacs were king. Those of us who lived them years are proud to be part of history. These songs bring back so many great memories. I as a future motion picture Director will place some of these great song in my first movie and will take us back in time to re-live those great years.
Class of 1977
