Product Description

Product Description

Go the distance with boxing's biggest names. EA SPORTS undisputed world champion boxing game makes its debut on the N64. Featuring power up KO punches, hidden moves and arcade action, Knockout Kings 2000 delivers over the top boxing action. From a no holds barred Slugfest match to a championship bout in Career mode, Knockout Kings 2000 puts you in the ring like never before. Slug it out as or against some of the greatest boxers of all time, including current champions Evander Holyfield and Oscar De La Hoya and legendary ring superstars Sugar Ray Leonard and Muhammad Ali. Fight as one of these champions or quickly create your own boxer to take on anyone in any mode. Lace 'em up and get it on.

Amazon.com

While it never quite achieves Muhammad Ali-like greatness, Knockout Kings 2000 is nonetheless an excellent boxing game for both the enthusiast and the casual gamer. Fifty boxing legends from the past and present are featured in this EA Sports title, along with world-famous arenas and TV-style coverage. In addition to being able to set up your own fights in the standard exhibition mode, you can play out nine of the greatest boxing matches in history in the game's classic mode. And for those interested in less realism and more pugilism, slugfest mode offers over-the-top, arcade-style boxing.

The real crowd pleaser here is Knockout Kings 2000's career mode. Choosing from a wide variety of options, you get to create your own custom boxer, who can fight his way to the top in career mode or participate in exhibition and slugfest matches. Before career fights, customized boxers can be improved by training, or playing various mini-games. (A memory card is required to save custom boxer data.)

What robs Knockout Kings 2000 of the championship belt is its unbalanced 3-D graphics. The boxers look great and move fluidly, but everything else appears flat and unfinished. Thankfully, fast game speed and responsive controls clamp down on the sightseeing, which is one sure-fire way to end up KO'd. --Joe Hon

Pros:

  • Can create your own custom boxer
  • Features realistic and arcade-style boxing
  • Fast game speed and responsive controls
  • Optional 1-button mode for those who don't want to memorize controls
Cons:
  • Except for the boxers, graphics aren't very pretty

5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Fun I Had Since Punchout December 4, 1999
By A Customer
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This game has a great look, with Boxing Greats like classic Alli to contemporary stars like Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield. (not to metion the middle and lightweights) From judge Mills Lane to Caesars Palace, this game IS authenicity. Don't listen to the critics. This game has excellent play control and adequate challenge. The career mode is, admittedly, a bit easy. However, I would like to see the guy who wrote the staff review take on Alli with Spinks or Tua in Slugfest hard mode; not an easy proposition! I'm a big boxing fan and love quality video games. Buy KK 2000, its well worth the money of a Lewis-Holyfield pay-per-view event.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great when it comes to Slugfest, but stinks in Career December 31, 2001
This could be a really great boxing game. Some of the best boxers in the world are featured, and the gameplay is excellent. That is until you get into the career mode.
Many of the players lose their skill when going into their careers, and the computer predetermines who will win the next fight. You could be beating the snot out of your opponent, while you give up little health, but he come's right back and KO's you, and the computer won't let you back up.
That's the major problem with this game. Other than that, I have no beef against it.

If you love sports, you will love this game. The game is fun and highly addictive. It is extremely competetive in career mode (but who does not enjoy a challenge). All character and background graphics are very realistic. I am a sports a videogame fanatic, and i would not dare tell a lie. But, BEWARE! , there is one drawback: the lack of fighters and rings is ridiculous. It is still fun though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just TRY to put it down! March 1, 2000

This is one of those games you can pick up to play for a minute or two and a couple of hours later you realize your thumbs are killing you. Addictive is an understatement! I enjoy creating my own players (Darius Q, D Rock Z, and Joe Aquarius are my guys) as well as play in career mode. The best part of this game is the speed at which the characters react. Ali & Sugar Ray are lightening fast and give a real challenge when you think you have the game figured out. There are enough variables to keep me interested, yet easy enough for my 11 year old son and me to have a few hours of fun. I can't wait to see the improvements on the next edition. Buy this (or rent it) and enjoy the fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Boxing Game for the Boxing Fan January 1, 2000

You can throw your own combination hitting differnt buttomsa-la Street Fighter. There are other combinations that are achallenge to pull off. If you put the challenge level on HARD, you have to master these combinations to beat opponents. This game is not arcade-like or for the 10 year old boy who just want to see a slufest. It's a boxing simulation whose depth of play and realism satisify any true boxing fan. Believe me, if you love boxing, you'll love this game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased. August 5, 2014
Verified Purchase
Knockout Kings 2000 has always been a childhood favorite of mine and I am thrilled to have it back in my collection. The games was shipped promptly and in excellent condition. The box is almost flawless and came with every last insert and freebie page published by Nintendo way back when the game was released. Someone obviously took care of their game. Keeping up with every single page for almost 15 years is quite the task.
