Amazon.com Product Description

The bestselling PlayStation boxing game of all time is back with a vengeance, and reaches a new level of control with Dynamic Punch Control. Dynamic Punch Control allows you to create your own combinations by smoothly flowing punches together in a series, and to control every punch in a combination. Knockout Kings 2001 features third-generation graphics for the most realistic boxers that have ever been seen on the PlayStation. Add the top female boxers, including Mia St. John and Lucia Rijker; trainers who provide strategy between rounds; and exciting commentary and analysis from boxing experts Al Bernstein, Teddy Atlas, and Max Kellerman, and Knockout Kings 2001 delivers another huge KO on the PlayStation.

Amazon.co.uk

We all know that the yearly ritual of a new edition brings mixed emotions; will they have changed much, will the bug that pervaded the last version recur, and, of course, the biggest question, will the game have moved on with the times?

The answer for Knockout Kings 2001 is, in short, yes. Along with a mixed bag of new features, the usual installment of classic boxers (augmented by the introduction of female boxers) is surrounded by lavish and vastly improved graphics. With even faster gameplay, this is a boxing fan's dream--all you wanted and more.

Choose from varying styles of boxers and enter the career mode. End each round with the advice of your corner man ringing in your ears. Watch your face and get your cut man to iron down the swelling. All this adds yet more realism in this bone-crunching fist fest.

The improvements continue with the training, an easy introduction to all the basic punches, and extra combinations to give you what you need to take on those contenders. --Robert Holliday

5.0 out of 5 stars Took 2 hrs but I now love this game, November 3, 2000

This review is from: Knockout Kings 2001 for PS1 (Video Game)
I am the ultimate boxing videogame junkie. Ever since playing 4D Boxing (Still the best boxing game ever) on the PC I have been in search of a great console boxing game. After being repulsed by the original Knockout Kings, I was very pleasantly surprised by last year's version. The controls were much improved and the graphics much nicer. This year I was expecting greatness and at first was dissapointed. I forced myself to keep playing and all of a sudden things clicked and the game really began to impress me. The new Dynamic Punch Control seemed unrealistic because when you clicked on say a low left hook 3 times in a row the boxer would throw them even if you then switched to an uppercut. So you could throw a triple hook and at the time you are waiting for the follow-up uppercut to come your boxer is still throwing hooks. This took away from the realism since you did not feel complete control. Yet the more I played the better the timing got and all of a sudden I was hit with how great this new system is. You can now back your opponent against the ropes and land a rapid fired combination that keeps his head snapping back. It add a whole new dimension. What is even better is that it is enough of a different game from KO Kings 2000 that you now have 2 great boxing games.

4.0 out of 5 stars MIKE TYSON'S would like KNOCKOUT KINGS 2001, March 19, 2001

This review is from: Knockout Kings 2001 for PS1 (Video Game)
True this game is slower than 2000 and boxer move more like fast slugers but the crab style and free style are nice. Traning in SPARRING RING and having a CUTMAN and TRAINER in your corner to stop bleeding is good. MIKE TYSON should have been in this game with the BITING. Try the NEW ELLEGAL MOVE by pressing the following to EAR BITE L1+R1+Trangle+circle+x+square. Here is a list of new boxers.

FEMALE boxers CristyMartin,MiaSt.John,LuciaRijker,ReginaHalmich,Chevelle

Hallback,BelinaLaracuente,DeniseMorates,SumyaAnani.

HEAVY Weight boxers MuhamadAli,DavidTua,EarniShavers,FloydPatterson,KenNorton,Archie Moore,RockyMarciano,JoeLouis,SonnyListin,LennexLewis,Ingemar Johnsson,EvaderHolyfield,LarryHolmes,MichaelGrant,JoeFrazier,Jack Dempsey,ButterBead,FrankBruno.

MIDDLE Weight boxers HectorCamacho,PernelWhitaker,FernadoVargas,SugarRayRobinson,David Reid,IkeQuartey,ShaneMosley,BrocoMckart,RayLeonard,JakeLamotta,

MarvinHagler,VernoForest,RobertoDuran,OscarDeLaHoya,JulioCesar Chavez,RubinCarter,ObaCarr.

I do not know what Light weight fighters are in the game. Have some EAR BITING fun complements of tyson.

1.0 out of 5 stars ????, December 22, 2000

This review is from: Knockout Kings 2001 for PS1 (Video Game)
This game is like EA sports is trying to take a back step from Knockout Kings 2000. I am a Boxer and i know how a Boxing fight should look, and coming from a Boxers point of view, this completly lacks realism. The graphics are much worse as is the gameplay compared to K.O kings 2000, they have added much better features and made it more interesting, but the graphics are horrible. The boxers foot work is too slow and their arms look like they are about to snap off, sorry EA sports, this one just doesn't cut it.
