Mediocre Makeover Genre Manga,
This review is from: Knockout Makers, The Volume 1 (Paperback)
I've read this one, and while it's OK, I think that for the Makeover Genre, "Beauty Pop" is far superior. It's lighter on its feet, funnier, and the art is much more charming.Granted, the art here is fine, but not particularly outstanding or unique. The characterizations are OK, but don't really grab me, though. Overall, it's an enjoyable manga, but if you prefer a bit more humor (but with a nice, light touch, nothing too heavy-handed), this may not entirely fit the bill.

Who is the Fairest one of all? Part 1,
By Karusichan "Karusichan" (Lansing, MI. USA.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Knockout Makers, The Volume 1 (Paperback)
Toshihiro, Nobuo, and Ryouhei are part of an elite group of beauticians called the Knockout Makers. Toshihiro is the team's makeup specialist, Nobuo the hair stylist, and Ryouhei the clothing expert. Together they take on special cases brought to them through their website (which is only open for a few minutes after midnight every night) and turn the girls into knockouts, working not only on their physical appearance, but also on their self confidence. The plotline is basically a series of short stories about different women as the K.O.M. take on different cases. They help a girl who wants to be more than "one of the guys", a girl who is constantly guarding her calories, another girl who actually gets mistaken for a man, a girl who's hair resembles Bach's, and a young girl who wants to emulate her favorite pop idol. The art is pretty decent though I am not sure if the ongoing storyline's with the initial three reoccurring characters but I may check out the next volume just for kicks when it comes out. |
