'SHANNON'S LAW' the second stand-alone novel following the 'Passion Patrol' theme of hot cops, hot crime and hot romance. Shannon is a witty but feisty inner-city wild-child cop, brought up on the wrong side of the tracks. Her unconventional methods and quick wit bring her success - but not without upsetting the bosses, who move her out to a rural patrol beat. She rapidly discovers there's more going on in this sleepy village than meets the eye. The son of a local aristocrat arouses suspicion of drug crime activity - but his widower father arouses more animal instincts! Their social differences mean nothing to their passion and need. Already in the mix is an upper class female rival - who has long plotted her way into the Earl's bed. The jealousy is an evil shade of green and the anger is a violent scarlet. Could she really mix with the British royal family? Can she risk her heart and career on yet another high risk unauthorised investigation? Can she get justice for an innocent boy? Dare a kid from the gutter dream of being a countess?

'COP'S KITCHEN' a companion cook book to 'SHANNON'S LAW' - read the romance, feel the passion TASTE the love. Emma Calin provides photos and recipes for all the meals shared in the story. Food ranging from items for a buffet luncheon in the marquee at the local manor house, for an intimate breakfast for two or for a traditional British fish and chip dinner.

Captivating characters, venues, action, and scenes combine to make Emma Calin's KNOCKOUT a great read.

The elements of crime drama, suspense and steamy romance combine to make this an unforgettable story that you will not be able to put down.
Janna Shay
I wasn't sure I would enjoy this when I picked it up because the writing style was a little too descriptive for my taste, but I did.

I read the book Knockout! A Passionate Police Romance in one sitting, and thoroughly enjoyed it!

The story is so full of passion, it is easy to be swept along. The plot held up nicely, with a couple of twists that I did not see coming.

Anna & Freddie have a burning up, seriously passionate romance, but it isn't easy. There are seemingly showstopper problems that threaten the relationship. The story didn't lag, I kept with it, wanting to know more.

There were a few proofreading errors, which I feel obligated to point out. They did not bother me, but I know there are readers that don't tolerate mistakes.

Also beware, there are steamy love scenes!

I will be looking for more by Emma Calin, this was a great read. I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

This book is HOT. It is HOT because it is so, so incredibly intelligent!

The language. The LANGUAGE!! Emma Calin's work is amusing, diverse and insightful, with razor-sharp dialogue to sweep you along. She's brash, bold, witty, emotionally intelligent, and perhaps most importantly, she's smart. She uses words to imperceptibly cast an invisible net over your brain and heart to capture and pull you in. The delicious, descriptive language and imagery can only come from a fine poet at heart.

In a romance novel you expect to see flailing arms, legs and thinly veiled private parts, with all the accompanying pawings, slobberings, steam risings and quasi-porn-film dialog. Much too easy. In this novel, sex is treated so tenderly, lovingly and naturally, the term "romance novel" seems too limiting. This is a high quality SUSPENSE NOVEL interwoven with an intriguing love story! It is quite intelligently treated and utterly unpredictable.

Now don't get me wrong. The sensuality here made me feel things in places I didn't know I still had places.#oh!hellotherelibido This is the magic of it. To me, the blatant over-use of raw sex and pornish dialog is always a turn-off...very comical, in fact...and totally unenjoyable.

Anna Leyton is as human as an author can make her. A real woman with authentic feelings, foibles, doubts and fears. A woman with courage, with a strong moral code, a woman capable of giving and receiving great love. In fact, all of the characters in this story are completely fleshed out and quite believable.

The author does a great job of fore-and-aft-shadowing and pacing, keeping the reader completely engrossed and unwilling to set it aside, even to eat.

My father's sister was a prolific reader. The librarian in my small hometown of Mangham, LA was a friend of hers and made sure that Aunt Maude got all the new releases. Irvin Wallace's novels were a favorite -- with one caveat. In my aunt's vernacular, they were "racy." The more explicit tomes earned a special designation. Aunt Maude would say, "I had to wear my ski mask when I read that one!" She did most of her reading in the small neighborhood convenience store she ran and didn't want people to see her reading that genre. But read them, she did!

A description on the cover of Knockout! by Emma Calin alerts readers that this is "A Passionate Police Romance." And it's not talking about Law and Order. Romance and romantic thrillers/mysteries are not genres with which I'm familiar. But dear old Aunt Maude's (R.I.P) bibliophilic legacy must be in the family genes. I decided to give it a go and Knockout! was my maiden voyage into the category. I'm a virgin no more.

Readers learn early on that Calin's protagonist, Anna Leyton is a detective inspector with Scotland Yard and is on special assignment for Interpol. What appears to be a chance encounter with a man who eventually shares her cab (and her bed) turns out to be -- wait -- no plot spoilers here! We do learn that it's been "so long" since she's had sex, that her hormones are primed and ready to boil over any minute. Men have often been criticized, condemned, and complained about because they let their hormones affect their judgement -- and their ability to tell the truth. Will that happen to Anna? Perhaps the fact that her new boss on this special assignment is a former lover will be a clue.

For readers familiar with romantic thrillers, Knockout! will be a treat!

The connection between Anna and Freddie is beautifully done. However, after spending the whole book worrying about Anna's police career, the author rushes to the "happily ever after" ending without telling you what happens to Anna's career as a police officer. Neither is there closure on all of the "mafia" connections and threats of death, etc. - she just leaves those basic premises of the plot unanswered. So while I enjoyed the story and loved Freddie - it was an unsatisfying ending.

A friend recommended this book to me, knowing I like both mysteries and romances, and I am so glad she did. Anna Leyton is a Metropolitan Police Detective in London on assignment to Interpol. In the tradition of romances, she meets her man by pure chance (well, almost), competing for a London cab on one of those rainy evenings when cabs are scarce. When she shares a cab with Freddie La Salle and breathing in his male fragrance and his aura of ... something ... her life has already undergone the change that we expect in romances. The rest, as they say, is history.

I really found three things about this book extraordinary, the first being the originality of the plot. Freddie La Salle turns out to be a famous boxing champion, and Anna's department has launched an investigation into illegal betting and money laundering connected with professional sports. Horse racing, yes. Football, basketball, Formula 1 racing ... when was the last time you read a mystery that centered on corruption in the boxing world? The originality of beautiful Anna falling for a crooked boxer drew me in and never let me go.

The love story juxtaposed with an unfolding crime-solving drama creates an impossible dilemma for the beautiful detective, and this is the second thing about Knockout that really works. Anna falls in love with Freddie before even learning he's a famous boxer, let alone before finding out that her department will identify him as a prime suspect in the mafia ring. The police assign her to watch him, ostensibly to bring him in at the first hint of proof of his involvement, and the stage is set for an impossible choice. Will she choose love, or will she fulfill her duty as a cop? The author carries this fine-spun dilemma to the absolute limit.
