I had read a lot of reviews about this item and most of them said these little Knog Strobe lights were difficult to use or broken.

Straight out of the package there are instructions that tell you to take the batteries out and remove a small slip of paper in between them. This most likely prevents them from turning on while in shipment. I noticed fiddling with it that the light came on for a split second even while the paper was in between the batteries before I had taken it off. I pressed down on the top (to turn it on) and probably resulted in a weak connection between the batteries around the edges. Maybe this is the reason a lot of people said their Knog was broken or couldn't get it to work properly at first.

The next complaint I read was that the lights turn on a lot in their backpacks. So far I have only had one of mine turn on once, but I have to argue that this is a pretty common problem with most lights. I used to have a Planet Bike brand beamer and tail light and they'd always turn on while in my bag. I'd say that it really depends on how you handle your backpack (I'm pretty rough) and that you should just make a habit of checking your lights when you get to your location and put your bag down. The buttons aren't finicky at all or difficult to press down like some reviewers said. They do take a moderate amount of pressure that just rolling around in your backpack generally wouldn't click them on, but not enough to have to fidget with it every time. There is a "click" sound when the button is pressed to leave any doubts about whether you pressed it correctly or not behind.

The last complaint I read was about the 5 different options for blinking style. One other reviewer posted the solution: select the blinking style you like (I like the steady even blink) and then when you turn of your light every time just hold down the button until it turns off and it will effectively save that style's position. Every time you turn it on after that it will start on that blinking style. You have to be sure to hold it down every time you turn it off though or it will lose the setting (and start back at the first style again).

Overall, the lights fit snug around my handlebars and seatpost and I have not had any dead batteries yet. I just wanted to clear up some misconceptions I saw on here.

This light is perfect for the casual after-hours commuter that just needs to be seen while riding at night.

Pros: Very small, secures tightly to seat posts or rear racks, can be pulled off in a second and dropped in a pocket or switched to another bike in your stable.

Cons: Not the brightest light available. Fairly directional light so while you can mount it just about anywhere, pointing it towards traffic coming at you is a bit limited. Does not double as a reflector.

I'm using this light on my road bike. I rarely ride before or after dark and wanted the smallest most convenient light I could find and this is a winner for that. Now if I get caught riding too late I have something to keep me a little safer. The light is bright enough to keep you visible to motorists and the flashing mode does draw attention. Motorists seem to love flashy text messages and GPS systems in their cars and this light should draw their attention away from those long enough that they see you and don't run you over.

Because it's a single LED light and somewhat directional, it's not very valuable for daytime usage. If you want to maximize safety, go with a heavier light that has multiple LEDs, larger batteries (this uses two tiny CR2032 batteries), has a built in reflector and can be seen from more directions. I recommend the Planet Blinky series for that.

However if you're looking for a nice little light to make you visible at night and only need to use it occasionally, this light is an excellent choice.

This little guy does the job of blinking to notify drivers that there's something ahead of them. The Knog light is great for a rear light, but I also bought the same size for a white front light....not bright enough to light your way on a street. Good for cars seeing you, not enough for viewing a dark road.

The Knog Frog Strobe Rear bike light is great. There are several different settings for the light; constant and 3 or 4 different speeds & patterns of flashing. It's vital for being seen by cars and other cyclists at night.

secures easily, turns on easily, lets cars see you. AND THE REASON FOR 5 STARS - Unlike any other light I've found, if you press it once it blinks, if you press and hold again (for just a moment) it turns off. So, you don't have to press it 5 times or so to rotate through all the blink patterns just to get it to turn off. This is something that infuriates me with all other lights and finally someone got it right.

Excellent product to have as an emergency light. We do not generally ride at night but this is perfect for those times when your ride last a little longer then planned and it starts to get dark.Very bright LED!

This light has been great for me and I have had none of the problems that others seem to have had. This light is bright, fits on to anywhere, and seems to run forever. It is the perfect back-up light for my road bike that I use for commuting, and I also have one on my MTB just incase I am out on the trails longer than planned.

I only get a weeks use out of a fresh pair of batteries. Not worth it.

I really did want to try these but it was damaged during shipment and I didn't want to risk going through the return process a second time.

I'll like order again soon.
