2.0 out of 5 stars Why publish a non-text based ebook?, January 22, 2012

This review is from: The Gnomes of Knot-Hole Manor Bilingual Chinese English (Kindle Edition)
Maybe I'm just confused, but I really don't understand why the author even bothered to make this an ebook rather than just publishing it on her website. The text is not e-text at all, but just images of text. Small ones at that, and they are just a small box of text with huge margins in the center of a (e-ink) Kindle reader. Being just images, you can not adjust the text size, spacing, font, etc. like you can with a real ebook, and the zoom function that works for pdf reading does not seem to apply either, so you are stuck with unusably small text. Also, the description says "text-to-speech" is enabled, but since there is no text, that does nothing. Also, are there supposed to be illustrations in this book? Because they do not seem to be there when viewing this in a Kindle3 (keyboard model) or on an iPhone Kindle reader?

I saw the author give the excuse that Kindle does not support Chinese text in a response to another review for a different book.. but that has not been true for over a year...

"Support for Non-Latin Characters:
Kindle supports the display of non-Latin characters, so you can read books and documents in the translation that's right for you. Kindle displays Cyrillic (such as Russian), Japanese, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), and Korean characters, in addition to Latin and Greek scripts."

5.0 out of 5 stars Little gem, January 15, 2012
This review is from: The Gnomes of Knot-Hole Manor Bilingual Chinese English (Kindle Edition)
This is truely a little gem. it is designed to assist education but is also just a lovely story. I am envious as a writer myself of this seasoned writer's obvious talent and any child or inner child would love it. the illustrations are delightfully niave and would appeal to children, clolourful and cheeky.
