Book Description

April 15, 2003 In the Know
Be IN THE KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Doing business across borders is very different from doing business across town–subtle and not-so-subtle differences in attitudes and etiquette play a big role.

Did you know?
• Be on time! Germans are very time-conscious; if you’re late, you might be seen as irresponsible.
• You’re expected not to wash your car, mow your lawn, or otherwise disturb the peace on Sundays; it’s part of Germany’s mandatory quiet hours.
• If you don’t want to sound insincere, don’t use excessive compliments. Do you really love that blouse your coworker is wearing?

In the Know in Germany helps you:
• Fit right in by understanding local manners, etiquette, and behaviors
• Navigate through everyday life with tips for the whole family
• Get an insider’s perspective on the social and business environment

The book includes a FREE 60-minute CD with the key phrases you need to make a great impression.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book to prepare you for Germany!, June 5, 2006
By
Victoria (Myrtle Beach, SC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In the Know in Germany: The Indispensable Guide to Working and Living in Germany (Paperback)
The book does a great job explaining clearly and succintly the culture of Germany, identifying the do's and taboos in daily life and in business, and it also gives great advices. The book explains in details the procedures for almost anything that you would need in Germany providing up-to-date examples and names: tranportation options and regulations, financial services (it even tells you how and where to pay your bills), how to find a place to live in, what to expect in the business environment, and even the procedures and documents needed to bring your pet into Germany.

What I particularly liked about the book is that it gives advices based on different groups. If you are single, married, having troubling teenagers, or you are gay - the book tells you what to expect based on your situation and how to make the most out of your trip.

At the end of the book you will also find a section with useful phrases in German and a CD which could help you brush up your German pronunciation.

The book is great and I would higly recommend it to anyone planning to visit or live in Germany!

1.0 out of 5 stars Great book, substandard service, March 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: In the Know in Germany: The Indispensable Guide to Working and Living in Germany (Paperback)
I ordered "In the Know in Germany" from Amazon on February 20th. As of this writing, March 24th, I have not yet received the book. However, since ordering it from Amazon, I found another supplier on the internet, I ordered the book (new) at roughly half the price, I have already received it, and I read it a week ago. The book deserves four stars. However, since I am submitting this review following two requests to do so by Amazon, I feel that a single star fairly represents the non-existent service to date.
