Over the past several years, Terra Naomi has become an Internet star, her homemade videos showcasing her singing and songwriting. Her powerful, steady vocals bring life to her lyrics, which at their best, feel personal yet relatable. As Terra's popularity grew, she made her way through the music industry maze and had the seemingly requisite experience with a big-label production that did not satisfy her expectations. Now, there's "To Know I'm OK," an album that she built from the ground up with the support of her fan base, and recorded with producer John Alagia. Most of the songs are new for this album, although "Not Sorry" is taken from her earlier release and reconceived here to good effect. The result is a treat for the ears!

If you've never heard Terra before, seek out her videos (they're easy to find online) and listen to how she's evolved over time. There's power in those performances of her own material, and fun in hearing her covers of other artists' songs. This album makes a perfect companion to that body of work: it's what happens when Terra takes the raw energy from her homemade videos and works it up with finesse. There's a bit of a feeling of the caged tiger in the first seven tracks, which were done in the studio, but she keeps that from being a problem by making sure that her outstanding voice is strong in the mix and not overshadowed by overproduced, thickly laden layers of instrumentation. I like these tracks, but even better, the last five tracks are live, and oh, does Terra shine on those.

"To Know I'm OK" stands alone as an excellent album, and it also stands proudly next to the homemade recordings she's shared with us. It's her music, on her terms, and aren't we lucky to have that?

Terra Naomi has done it again. I first discovered her via Youtube like most people and she has continued to grow as an artist. Keep the great music coming and thanks for all your the work you have put into making the music you love.

Terra is so talented - a beautiful singer, and very talented pianist and guitarist. Her songwriting is unique, mature, and heartfelt. This is a wonderful album for anyone who listens to Missy Higgins, KT Tunstall, Amy Winehouse, Adele, etc. You will love it!
