Simply Amazing!,
By
This review is from: Know Nothing Stays the Same (Audio CD)
What else can I say more then this EP is amazing! This album compiles 5 covers of pop classics you won't want to miss! Copeland really is one of those rare bands to be able to use old songs and make them live again with a different sound, a Copeland sound! If you like Copeland's previous works, get this cd if you haven't already!

Copeland Turns Back the Clock,
By C. Wainwright (Yuba City, CA United States) - See all my reviews

Aaron Marsh and Copeland recorded this EP over the course of a week in December 2003 because, as Marsh is quoted on the band's Web site, "These were all songs we grew up listening to that we thought we could bring something new to." Copeland certainly bring something new to these songs, breathing new life into them with Copeland's signature sound while not straying very far from the original versions. The standout track is "Coming Around Again," from which the EPs title "Know Nothing Stays the Same" comes. Copeland take this song and make it their own, with Marsh belting out the vocals with an emotional intensity that the original Carly Simon version lacked. Bryan Laurenson's delayed guitar arpegios are a particulary effective accent along with wonderful harmonies. As a fan of the original versions of all five of these songs and a huge fan of Copeland, this EP is a wonderful treat that, in my opinion, improves on the originals and will not disappoint even the most discerning music fan.

COPELAND TAKES MY BREATH AWAY,

the album title, know nothing stays the same, holds very true. these covers by copeland have quickly replaced my love for the originals.i bought this (about $10) for my mom because she grew up with these songs and enjoys copeland, too. i had to take it for myself. i keep number five on repeat. if you are looking to hear good covers and/or if you enjoy copeland as well, definitely pick this one up.

Its inticing,

"coming around again" oozes with delight and subtle beauty, its the best track on the cd.all the rest a ver very good and have that COPELAND sound to them. Aaron's voice is amazing as always. Take my Breath Away is the only "sort-of" flaw, due to the fact that it drags on and on with the chorus sometimes, but the verses are ver good on the song. all the songs have an interesting beat to them, even with "part time lover" doing the 80s beatbox thing to it. this cd is great, get it.

A Good In Between Album Twist,

Copeland is a band that has an unmistakable sound--take it and add it to five pop classics and you get pretty good results. I bought this originally from a Amazon.com merchant, but after waiting three months and not getting it, I just went out and bought it. And I'm certainly glad that I did! Along with the five listed tracks there is a hidden remix of She's Always a Woman that's really odd.1. Another Day In Paradice (P.Collins)--5/5 This is my favorite song on the entire EP, it sounds the most like a 'true' Copeland song. It also features the best vocals that Aaron puts out on the disk. 2. Coming around Again (C. Simon)--4/5 An enjoyable song, but nothing really stood out to me. 3. She's always a Woman (P. Joel)--5/5 I love it when Copeland resorts to piano and vocals, it nearly always comes out perfectly. And I love the lyrics and strings. 4. Take my Breath Away (Berlin)--2/5 This song gets 2 stars only because it's Copeland and Aaron sings. It is so rediculously cheesy that I have trouble making myself listen to the entire thing. 5. Part-Time Lover (S. Wonder)--5/5 This seemed like an odd song for Copeland to cover, and sounds even odder. There's no Copeland song even remotely like this one, and the beatbox is kind of weird, especially the eerie sounds in the background. But for some reason, I love it.

These guys are amazing. This ep of covers shows there influences and lets them shine. I can't wait for their next full length album. Any band that can make that awful song by Berlin sound good is alright with me.
