Couldn't Put This Book Down!!!!!!!!!,
This review is from: You Know They're Here (Paperback)
This is one of the best books I have purchased in a long while. To the people who have read the book "Twilight", this book is a read much like that. Once you pick it up and begin reading it, you find yourself saying just one more page just one page until it is 3 hours later. If you like books about the paranormal, true stories, or haunted houses then you should read this book. The details are so vivid that you will begin thinking you are there.

One of the best haunt books i've read in a very long time. As a long time Olean, NY folk myself, i never knew what it was really about till i picked up this book (although i had heard bits here and there, just never the full force that this book has created). Mr. Kenyon very well details of events made this a classic in my heart, however, the down side is that not everything was put into the book after reading Clara's book, however, it doesnt hurt it at all, just wish some of the events from her book was in Mr. Kenyon's book. Anyways, this is a truly high reccomended book and will sure to bring back memories of Olean, NY old timers as well.

a nice little thriller with local color,

Paul, A great job on this. Thanks for the autograph and message. Really enjoyed the book. It had the right amount of spookieness and I loved the mention of some beloved old Olean places, i.e Arthur Treachers, Warners Bakery, etc.
I felt "right there" when I read the passages from the Dandy house. Genuine thrills and I admit to being one of those dumb kids who came up for a peak back in the day.

Editing one's book,
By
This review is from: You Know They're Here (Paperback)
Hello everyone, Paul J. Kenyon here... Editing a book is a tough job, and I'd like to apologize for the few mistakes that can be found in my first novel. I personally read the book 12 times; twice aloud. After receiving the proof from my publisher I read it two more times and STILL, there are simple mistakes - typos, a missing word, or a word that doesn't belong. I trust you'll accept my apologies and read my next works which will be available sometime after the new year. Happy Reading, everyone!
PJK 9-18-10 It's amazing that one might make a mistake when writing and I did just that while talking about a fictional series I am writing as well as this book. I referred to my book as a 'novel' and I must admit, when I wrote the above statement I simply didn't think when typing the word novel. Clara Miller, author of Echoes of a Haunting emailed me and asked why I had called my book a novel on a couple of different sites. I really don't know. As for it being fake, maybe those interested should write to Clara Miller who lived in the house when I visited. I prefer not to get into family problems with my son. He has good reason to be mad at me, but I would much rather he call or write me rather than take his being very upset with me on here. Hopefully, when Cold Secrets, book one in a fictional series (NOVEL) is released it will be accepted as what it is. Thanks all. PJK

Kept my attention...,

This review is from: You Know They're Here (Paperback)
This was a good book to while away the time with while being snowed in the past week. It was very long, but it kept my attention. I read Clara Miller's book when it first came out and vaguely remembered it being very scary. This book was scary, too, but in many respects seemed more like an autobiography than a true ghost story. That isn't a huge drawback, since the book was generally interesting, but I think there would have been enough for the author to focus solely on his paranormal experiences, which were many. And I did find myself interested in what happened to him afterwards and why there was such a huge gap of time between the events described and the publishing of the book. I figured out that I am either the exact same age as the author, or within a year, so I also felt a certain sense of nostalgia in reading this book.
Regarding the author's apology for typos, nobody is harder on typos than I am, and I did notice a few - but the book was well done enough for me to give the few there were a pass.

You'll Feel Like You Are There,

This review is from: You Know They're Here (Paperback)
You will feel like you are there while reading. Paul goes into vivid detail in describing the events taking place. Because the book is based on true events it makes the reading that much more interesting. For me as the author's brother, a lot of it was reminiscent of earlier times but even I didn't know all that happened at the Dandy house so I was intrigued. Chilling account of a real haunting. Can't wait to read his next offering! Good job little Bro!

Couldn't put it down,

This review is from: You Know They're Here (Paperback)
"You Know They're Here" gives the reader a unique first person account of the experiences with a "haunted" house in rural Western New York during the 1970s. This book is appealing on different levels. If you find yourself to be interested in the paranormal, you will find this book very interesting and well worth the read. Aside from sharing the experiences of the paranormal activity in this house the author also provides first hand accounts of developing relationships with several people as a young man, relationships with parents, friends (new and old), finding trust and confidence in a well respected Franciscan Brother, the growing relationship between himself and his fiance, and becoming a first-time father. I found myself immersed in this book. The author writes in a way that you often forget you are reading a true account of events. You find yourself in a false sense of security while you believe you are reading a fictional ghost story, then suddenly you realize that the story is true -- which amplifies the shivers going and down your spine. To close I would like to say that I couldn't put this book down. I was also excited to see many references to St. Bonaventure University (Go Bonas!). Altough at times the dialouge between characters seems a little too formal, I definitely give this book five stars and would recommend it to anyone. Good job, Paulie! I'm really looking forword to your future work.

I become very interested in the paranormal about a dozen years ago. Since then I have read well over a hundred books related to the subject. While I would not put this book in my top ten, I did enjoy it. Some reviewers complained that the book covered too many things from the author's life that were not related to the actual case. It did take a while to get to the main parts of the story but I actually enjoyed that. I felt like I was there finding old coins with the author, or in the sub shop getting ready to go out to the house on another quiet summer night. I was also sad to learn the author and his wife who were once very much in love ended up getting a divorce (alright, cue sad violin music here). I like to get to the good parts as quickly as the next reader and the book was slow in parts but I did not mind. And as is the case with many paranormal stories, the reader (and people involved) are left with many questions left unanswered. Worth checking out but don't expect to finish in a few days.

I was pleasently surprised by this book.
It read very easily and i found myself easily losing a couple of hours at a time in it. I found this book even better than the book about the same house ,written by the owner "Echos of a haunting revisited". This book I found had a lot more detail about the individual events. I enjoyed reading the details of the authors life outside of the haunted house. At times i felt it was a little long winded but i really enjoyed it. |
