Between the space from when an alarming, incoming message unconsciously evokes our emotions there is a moment in time that could change a person's impulsive response to an alarming trigger. When this moment is influenced by mindfulness it can turn a 'reflex' reaction into a response of focused attention. When we learn to observe ourselves and when we become able to relax into our thoughts and feelings (and triggers) without judging them it becomes much easier to open ourselves to many possibilities for responding appropriately and authentically. Mindfulness practice teaches the brain to be quiet and alert at the same time; it provides the necessary environment for reduced stress in our daily lives without expecting change from the unchangeable - our workplace, our families and our genetic makeup. Dr. Hassad has made it simple to practice mindfulness (without stress) even with our busy daily routines.
