A book I'd read any Saturday!,
By
This review is from: Do You Know What I'm Going To Do Next Saturday? (Library Binding)
"Do You Know what I'm Going to Do Next Saturday?" fueled my own childhood hopes and dreams. The narrator, a pre-teen boy, describes all the incredible plans and schemes he intends to fulfill on Saturday. Each plan, more ambitious than the first, gets a photo illustration which suggests, just slightly, what the wish fulfillment could be, if only it could be. This book is a wonderful metaphor for the shining notion of "Saturday as liberation", a perfect capture of that sense of anticipation that after 43 years on this earth, I still bring to each Friday.I love this book, because it's simple, direct, and yet keys into fantasies about "exciting weekends" I have had all my life. A sweet, earnest, goofy, fun book.

This book is not about a demented young boy, but a normal boy who's imagination is very healthy and very normal. When I was a youngster about that age, our neighborhood's youth like most neighborhood youth played either "combat" or "Cowboys and Indians". All in make believe fun. Later in life I followed my Dad's footsteps and entered military service. I became a Marine ( we don't like being called soldiers, Marine will do just fine. )during the time when going into the military wasn't very popular. (The Vietnam War)Now adays the country is so divided over our military and some are extremely quick to judge anyone who wants to be a Marine or Soldier when they grow up as being demented or sick. Whatever happened to patriotism? The boy in this book, most likely has had some outside influence much the same as I did when I was his age. John Wayne, Richard Widmark, William Bendix, and a whole lot more who portrayed our heroes in films like Sands of Iwo Jima, Guadal Canal Diary, Back to Bataan, Wake Island and more. What's wrong with a boy wanting to become something good rather than something bad. I think this book is not only a positive learning influence, but also it shows that there's nothing wrong with a healthy imagination.

Next new book for my DAUGHTERS!,

What a wonderful find. This book sends me back to my youth.
When I was a boy, we went to parades on Memorial Day as well as Independence Day. We saluted the troops as they marched by. My father (the former Marine) saluted the flag. We went to the country and visited the "compound" (cabin in the woods). My father taught me to live off the land, to start fires...the right way. We fished, hunted, hiked, and if I was really good...we got to shoot a little. My father gave me many gifts... ...a healthy respect for firearms and their proper use and handling. We always had loaded guns in the house. We had no safe and I never felt the desire to play with them without my father around. I never felt the need to bring one to school to show off. My father taught me how to and how not to use a firearm. ...an overwhelming belief in self reliance and personal responsibility. ...a love for our military and the true gifts of freedom and liberty they provide me. My 4 year old daughter already knows the National Anthem, the Pledge of Alegence, and (to my father's great pleasure) the Marine Corps Hymn. This book is going to be a wonderful addition to the pink youth .22 rifle that's already waiting for her in the "bunker" (gun safe). Now I just HOPE I get to keep my CHANGE!

I was very excited to find this book as a gift for my brother this Christmas. I did not unwrap it from the packaging in which it was sent and gave it to him about a month later. You can imagine my disappointment as he went through the pages only to discover one was ripped out! I was upset and embarrassed by this. Nothing about the description indicated there was a page missing. There was also a stain on the cover and hairs in the cellophane. This was over $50 so very disppointing.

The wackiest children's book ever!!!,

"Do You Know What I'm Going To Do Next Saturday" is the craziest, funniest, most ludicrous children's book ever written. It's about a boy, a horrible, manic little boy who has MAD plans for his weekend, which include eating everything in sight and shooting guns with soldiers. The pictures alone make it worth the cost. Although it was part of a series called "Beginner Books," it's disturbingly so much more - a reflection of our culture through the mind of a demented child. Read it and you'll see what I mean...
