I am only 12, but knowing that Ayla has such a different image than most of the other artists that are out there, which is all sounding the same to me. same hand clap drum machine beats... my parents told me, if I want to look up to anyone thats out there now, it should be Ayla. These songs are great, all my friends love them, everyone is putting them on thier i-pods and my space sites,Ayla is awesome, great songs!

Ayla Brown Rocks!,
A Kid's Review

Both songs are fabulous! Ayla isn't like many stars you see today! She is a great role model and singer. You can relate both songs to Kelly Clarkson or Natasha Beddingfield. I recommend it very much!

I saw Ayla at the Big E this weekend, she performed these songs, I bought 3 cd's these songs are great. I think pam-pam should find out who wrote I Quit, they wrote "like a virgin" and "torn" so she insulted two of the best writers out there today. everyone thinks these songs such hits. all my frinds love them!!!

Ayla impresses beyond expectations,

It is hard to believe Ayla Brown only made it to 13th place on the hit show 'American Idol.' Her voice is so unbelievably developed for only 18-years-old, especially when she lets loose on her power ballads. On 'Know You Better / I Quit,' Ayla proves that she can tackle uptempo songs as well.
1) 'Know You Better' - 5/5 - This song is very radio-friendly in my opinion and it blends in well with other current music being played on the airwaves. The beat is catchy and her vocals make the song stand out. Definitely a great first effort. 2) 'I Quit' - 4/5 - Although it seems a little 'childish' in some areas of the lyrics for my demographic, I do enjoy the music on the track. Again, Ayla's vocals carry the song. I think the bridge could have had a little more substance, but this could definitely compete with some of the material out there at the moment. Overall, this single is a great effort from Ayla and I am confident the rest of the album will be just as good (if not better) than these two tracks. Bring on 'Forward>'!

Exceptional first Album,

I would review the entire "Forward' album but the option is not presently available. I have had this album from iTunes for more than a week. ITunes picked this album up exclusively before the street release date.
These 2 singles are from Ayla Brown debut album 'Forward'. Many remember Ayla from Amercian Idol, some know her as a basketball player. 'I Quit' was Ayla's first song to be aired locally on radio. It received immediate thumbs up from the airing DJ. 'Know You Better' is soon to be on a local Massachusetts radio station's top 30 countdown. Both singles are in the pop-powerpop genere, and both have been requested through local radio stations numberous times. Ayla has an uncanny desire to excell at everything she does, her music certainly included. Alya goes on to co-write 2 songs on her album showing us that not only can she sing but she also has the ability to write music. One of those songs she wrote inspires people to contiue persuing their dreams no matter who says they can't be achieved. That is actally what she did in recording this album. She also does not forget that although she may have been able to record this album on her own, the support of her fans made the trek that much easier. She continuosly thanks her fans for supporting her. Ayla is a wonderful role model, something that many of todays artists are lacking. American can now hear what they have been missing since Ayla departed American Idol. Her music not disappoint you no matter what age you are. Happy listening

Refreshing Original Songs,

1.Know You Better: Contemporary song blends in perfectly with the current playlists on the radio, lyrics speaks to ambivalence in young adult relationships. Catchy tune, keeps you humming it all day. Sounds a bit like Natasha's or Aly and AJ's music. Great first effort.
2. I Quit: Lyrics crack me up every time I hear them, are fitting for something your doing every day when you just want to quit some boring project, job, school, relationship. When I first heard Ayla was singing a song entitled "I Quit" it confused me how someone so focused and passionate about school, music and basketball would find a use for those words. You really have to check out this song because it fits so well and makes sense when you hear it. Even though the song is about breaking up the refrain is so catchy you can't help applying it to other aspects of life. Kinda like a JoJo song. Great melody. Ayla is on her way. Looking forward to the orchestra version of the song Forward.

Ayla Brown serves up a half baked single.,
By Pam "Pam" (High Point, NC) - See all my reviews

I Know You Better - The song is alright. It's a pretty catchy pop song with decent lyrics. I just don't feel any distinct style that separates her from thousands of other pop artists. 3/5
I Quit - A poorly written song about ending a relationship. I think this is the worser of the two. The redundant chorus becomes highly annoying by the second half of the song. 2/5 Ayla is a decent singer, but this music is cookie cutter pop. I am hesitant to look into her album after this single. |
