From School Library Journal
Grade 5-8?This title has been rewritten and expanded to reflect new findings and more serious attitudes about smoking. Hyde discusses the history of nicotine and tobacco, effects on the body, public perceptions, and prevention, paying particular attention to advertising. The cartoons of the earlier edition have been replaced with black-and-white anti-smoking posters, and some graphs have been added. This book covers most of the same material as Judy Monroe's Nicotine (Enslow, 1995), but while Hyde's text is easier to read, chapter subtopics are not highlighted. Know about Smoking's new facts and figures make books such as Sherry Sonnet's Smoking (Watts, 1988; o.p.) outdated.?Martha Gordon, formerly at South Salem Library, NY
