The mind of a master scholar,

This review is from: Knowing the Holy Spirit Through the Old Testament (Paperback)
This short book was based on a series of lectures. It would have been great to be there, but maybe a bit overwhelming. The book form allows one to stop, review, think, evaluate, appreciate, and apply what the author says. As I study and teach the Old Testament at my church, I will refer to this book often. I've already recommended it to several friends and colleagues. I'm looking forward to reading his companion work on knowing Jesus through the Old Testament.

Complex topic; simplified explanation!,
This review is from: Knowing the Holy Spirit Through the Old Testament (Paperback)
I found Christopher Wright's book about the Holy Spirit very enlightening. He tackled a topic that is complex, but made it seem simple and easy to explain to others. I especially enjoyed his use of Scripture to back up every explanation. Great writing style and topic knowledge. I'll have to read it a second time.
I will look for more books by this author.

Really nice study on a somewhat neglected topic. Read this on a family trip to Disney, and while it's not a devotional type of book I used part of it as family devotional while mama drove us through the Talledaga forest on the way home. Good exposition of the scriptures will lift your heart. His section on Ezekiel's valley of dry bones was cool, and his description of the Spirit and creation also interesting.

Utterly Essential Reading for Every Minister and Christian,
This review is from: Knowing the Holy Spirit Through the Old Testament (Paperback)
If you are unfamiliar with Christopher J. H. Wright's writings, you are in for a treat. Chris has an astounding gift for making biblical principles simple for every level of spiritual maturity. His grasp of the entire scriptures is an art form that he clearly sees as intentionally woven together from Genesis to Revelation. His sections on Ezekiel and Joel are mind-blowing as he dares to see the gospel in the Old Testament Prophets. I say dares, because the gospel is obviously present, but many refuse to be Old Testament Ecclesiologists and missiologists while simply settling for New Testament Ecclesiology and Missiology. In addition, his wrestling with the Moses' texts and God's relationship with Moses is food for one's soul. FInally, someone to agree with Walt Kaiser's understanding of God's Old Testament Mission rooted in creation. Read this book and you will want to read all of Wright's work.
