5.0 out of 5 stars Jesus Christ and His fulfillment of biblical prophecies February 20, 2004
Format:Paperback
This little book brings all the major prophecies in the Old Testament concerning the Messiah into easily readable and understandable form. Ankerberg and Weldon have made a great contribution here by providing the scripture texts which prophesy about Messiah, as well as their context within the Scriptures, and an explanation of that text. They further point out where the texts have also been recognized by the Jews as Messianic (and even delve into contrary opinions and views), quoting the Targumim (ancient Aramaic paraphrases of the Hebrew Bible), Hebrew and Christian scholars, e.g., Dr. Pinchas Lapide, Alfred Edersheim, Walter C. Kaiser Jr., et al, throughout. Reprinting this book would be a timely and valuable service to the Church today. I heartily recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short, sweet, hard to beat March 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
While it only covers some of the verses prophesying Jesus, it does explain them sufficiently. It gives a mathematical evaluation showing that the odds of anyone else filling them are astronomical, ruling out any others being the Messiah. It also quotes the rabbis and their literature that prove that these verses were believed both before and at the time to be prophetic of the Messiah, even when later Jewish writers and rabbis denied this, coming up with new interpretations (that just don't work on several levels) since that would force them to admit that Jesus was the Messiah. In short, while short, a good book, even if it doesn't handle all verses.

3.0 out of 5 stars Brief,but good,and easy to understand May 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is more of a tract,or booklet, but it is good and will be helpful to the average reader. This tract covers 13 main passages related to the Messiah, and will adequately supply a Sunday School teacher or someone with key information to support belief in Jesus Christ being the only possible candidate for the messiah to appear in history.

John Ankerberg and John Weldon have done an excellent job of providing a scholarly overview of Old Testament messianic prophecies and their relation to the person of Jesus Christ.

After an overview of the subject of prophecy, starting with Genesis 3:15 and then proceeding through the rest of the Old testament, the authors look at the Biblical text in question, the context of the passage, and an explanation of the text, not only from recognized Biblical scholars, but from Jewish scholars of antiquity who have labeled the passage as a prophecy specifically referring to the Messiah.

The result is a very readable and approachable scholarly text that is a great asset for those who argue for Christian Trinitarian orthodoxy that not only is Jesus Christ the fulfillment of the Suffering Messiah prophecies, but that he is unquestionably a part of the Trinity, a true God-man who impacted the world for our salvation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Biblical proofs of the Messianic reality of Jesus January 27, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This short book is one that digs deep into Old and New testament scripture to reverently explain the deity and humanity of Jesus Christ. I suggest looking up the verses as they appear in the book and highlighting them in your bible for future reference. I had not read Ankerman previously to this book. I recommend this and the rest of his apologetic series to bible classes and groups as well as individuals new to the Christian faith. I personally was deeply moved by this book as a believer for it reminded me of who Christ really is and what He has done for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars An "OK" book for Christians
John Ankerburg was kinda big in the 90's so I gave this book a shot. I'll keep it around as a reference work, but there are much better books about Jesus out there.
