I purchased this jumpstart 6th grade cd the summer before school started. Came in the mail and installed it in the laptop . My daughter seemed to have an immediate interest in the subject matter- we began going over science subjects.. I rememeber her finding interest in the geology questions like type of rocks.
Many of the questions had me guessing - guess a loss of memory is to blame.. and some of the questions seemed to be above a 6th grader's mindset - like names of chemical bonds.
The software's interface was about a 3 out of 5 stars. The reason for this is because the user has to manuever an object over a location on the screen and drop - cant remember what it was- something... The program then starts a new set of question and answer table, but only only 1 at a time - so one has to do this manuevering everytime for a new question to appear. I'm not sure if the entire cd is like this or if it was just in the science section.
A complaint i had to my daugther about the software was when a correct answer was chosen the original question text would immiedialtly disapear - not allowing one to reread the question and correct answer. The software needs a simple time delay of some sort to allow the user to re-read the original question/correct answer combo.

We had fun using the software and we seemed to learn much during or short time using it.

Overall, we are satisfied with this game. We have all Jumpstarts from Preschool to this one. Disappointed in 1 item. Evolution is stated as fact in this game. Only place where it was found is in the introductory, as you type in your name to begin game. Statement made is random, so you never know when you log in. We would not have bought this if we knew in advance on a matter of principal belief that God is the creator of all life.

This provides a great review of info that your child might have forgotten or never really learned in the first place. The graphics are okay, not anything like XBox of course, but good enough for a child who should be concentrating on the learning and not on the gaming! I would recommend, and I plan on getting Jump Start 7th grade next year, if it is available!

Loading it onto my computer that runs Windows7 was problem free, and I am not a computer person at all.

I purchased 4 Different SCHOOL SOFTWARE PRODUCTS for my Twins to work on over this past Summer to help them with Reading, Math, and Logistics. To my dismay They LOVED this PRODUCT, they've had every version since JUMPSTART PRE-SCHOOL, and on days when we were lounging by the Pool or planning on a Picnic, they would randomly ask PERMISSION TO GO PLAY THIS GAME AND THE OTHER'S? After dragging my Jaw off the floor I ACQUIESED! NOTE: One of my children has struggled and disdained school since Kindergarten, this year she couldn't wait to start. I have ALREADY BEEN CONTACTED BY TEACHERS & THE PRINCIPAL, ASKING ME WHAT CHANGED OVER THIS PAST SUMMER.
JUMPSTART has an execellent way of INTEGRATING LESSONS & FUN in a manner that really doesn't seem like the same boring (example) MULTIPLICATION TABLES that we all had to Memorize as Schoolchildren! This is such a GREAT PRODUCT I COULD RAVE FOR HOURS ABOUT IT! JUMPSTART KEEPS UP WITH ALL THE NEWEST TEACHING METHODS REQUIRED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, and also with what works for KIDS! This is an AWESOME PRODUCT! If you do nothing else for your 5th grader this 2011/2012 School Year, BUY THIS to prepare them for the 6th Grade. This even briefly goes into readying them for MIDDLE SCHOOL, but....That's for NEXT SUMMER!

I think this is a great source of knowledge for kids, however my son gets bored easily with it, of course 11 year olds get bored soon when the game is not interesting, and that seems to be the case, the characters should be a little more interesting, but overall, at least 20 minutes of playing with it, is a good way for your child not to waste time watching TV.

I contacted Selectsoft and they have attempted to help me get the software installed. I have tried on a Dell GX280 with XP not mine and on a Gateway Laptop MT6919. No luck. I purchased 4th 5th and 6th but they all do the same thing. "Can't find DIB!"

I am not happy though I have been very patient.
