Product Description

Knowledge Economics: Emerging Principles, Practices and Policies, Edited by Debra M. Amidon, Piero Formica, and Eunika Mercier-Laurent. The purpose of this tri-volume set of books is to provide timely readings to educate the new generation of researchers, professors and teachers, as well as industrial and government leadership professionals. The compilation includes the most compelling writing from 27 leading author contributors from the ENTOVATION Network representing Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Croatia, Estonia, France, Germany, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States. The principles of knowledge economics should be endorsed as a revolutionary change - an opportunity to provide a solid foundation, rationale and vision to substitute something more sustainable than the old regime of traditional economics. Intelligent and innovative explorations of computer capabilities optimize individual and collective work of employees and the entrepreneur. Collectively, the writings document the evolution of three laws of knowledge dynamics: the 1st based upon knowledge, the 2nd based upon innovation and the 3rd defining the value of collaborative advantage. The trilogy is divided into three major books - each providing a facet of the new thinking: Volume I: Principles/Standards; Volume II: Practices; Volume III: Policy, Governance and Measurement.

5.0 out of 5 stars ...a heads-up must-read!!!, July 11, 2006
Debra Amidon, the Maria Montessori of the Knowledge Economy, is considered a pioneering architect of the field who continuously brings clarity of vision as one of its important leaders. We can expect no less than these exemplary volumes from the first Chief of Knowledge Innovation during the late 80s.

The Knowledge Economics: Emerging Principles, Practices and Policies is a view of the concentric growth and importance of the field. Contributing chapters in the three volume set of 1000 pages, documents theory, practice, and case studies as well as history, applications and trends written by leaders of Knowledge Economy. In the work Amidon and guest editors Piero Formica and Eunika Mercier-Laurent have brought together selected thoughtleaders, academic, and corporate members of E100 Network.

In the introduction Amidon, Formica and Mercier-Laurent state that the volume of collected papers "...is about evolving Knowledge Age Economics--a progressive way to measure and manage critical assets into the future. It deals with individuals, organizations, communities and policymakers on the border of the innovation-based society characterized by an increasing degree of stakeholder interaction and high sustainability intensity."

There are clear messages from reading Knowledge Economics: Emerging Principles, Practices and Policies. The scope and depth of the collected papers is an opportunity for any civic, corporate, or development manager to form a personal, societal, or organizational view of the complex field of Knowledge Economy. Doing so is necessary as the transformation in our knowledge--social learning, networking, collaboration in human, print, electronic and built environments accelerate. Building on knowledge relationships is knowledge innovation. As a meme, innovation now permeates an increasing number of sociocultural groups, academic domains, industrial and financial sectors with emerging patterns of development and management strategies. A distinct overarching idea throughout Knowledge Economics is that the Triple Knowledge Lens is a way to calibrate activity in the Knowledge-based Economy, Society, and Infrastructure.

The contributors are worldwide innovators, creatives and collaborators who are foregrounding local concepts and practice in the Knowledge Economy worldwide.

The collected writers and their work is a milestone. For me, it has grounded the seemingly theoretical concepts into the practical implications, including policies and practices. This is a seminal work grounded in the reality of how swiftly the Knowledge Economy is evolving. For those of you doing futures strategies this is a heads-up must-read!
