I thought the book was great! The author draws some really great connections from the theories of Paulo Freire to modern day hip-hop. I recommend this for anyone going into the education field or someone just looking for some stimulating thought. I think it's vital that educators reach to today's students on levels that appeal to them and music is the way to go. This book gave me some great ideas for my classroom and you won't go wrong by adding it to your library.

Priya Parmar does an excellent job arguing for the need to study rap & lyrical content in the classroom. There are also some great interviews with KRS, he talks about his personal history as well as Hiphop's.

Thoughtful writings and personal experiences from both the author and Krs-One makes this book a must read. Teachers in English and Social Studies could find this book helpful if trying to use rap in their classes. Good read for those who want to learn more about what hip hip is and how it can be used in positive ways!!!!
