Book Description

From the bestselling creators of Owen & Mzee comes this board book about Knut, the adorable polar bear cub who's captured hearts around the world.

When Knut was first born, he was no bigger than a snowball. His mother was unable to care for him, so a bear keeper at Zoo Berlin, Thomas Dörflein, became Knut's foster father-sleeping next to the little cub, feeding him from bottles, and helping him learn how to play and swim.

This is the true story of a little bear who needed a family, and the extraordinary outpouring of love he received from Thomas, from the zoo, and from people all around the world. Knut's story is now available in board book format, to share with the youngest readers!

5.0 out of 5 stars There's nothing sweeter than this true story about a baby bear!, July 15, 2008

This review is from: Knut The Baby Polar Bear (Board book)
Very young children will be absolutely enthralled with the story of an baby polar bear no bigger than a snowball! Knut lives in Germany in a zoo, and he was lucky enough to meet Thomas who helped raise him.
Thomas fed Knut with a bottle, just like a human baby. He even taught him how to swim.

Knut was so cute that he won the hearts of people all over the world, and now very young readers can learn about him with this board book that tells his story. This is an excellent true story told beautifully with precious pictures to enhance the tale.

What a great story for little animal-lovers!

3.0 out of 5 stars OK for a baby, save your money for a child over the age of two, December 14, 2008

This review is from: Knut The Baby Polar Bear (Board book)
I bought this for my preschool-age daughter because she had learned about Knut in Germany and was somewhat interested. Aside from a few cute pictures, there isn't much to this book. The story isn't particularly interesting -- the text is "This is Knut. He is a baby polar bear. He lives at the zoo . .. . " The information on the book's back cover (when Knut was born, he was no bigger than a snowball; his foster father slept next to him and fed him from bottles) is far more interesting than anything inside the book's covers.
The book is okay if you just want to look at a few pictures of a cute little polar bear, but if you want to learn anything about Knut, best to save your money and look elsewhere.
