I used to own about 20 ukes, including several top-of-the-line models by Lanikai, Kala, Oscar Schmidt, Ibanez, and others. Then I bought my first KPK, a tenor, in June, 2011. It made me realize that the only things that matter are the sound and the playability. All the cosmetic stuff is nothing but added expense - I like maple binding and mother-of-pearl purfling, but they aren't nearly as important as the sound. Since this realization struck me I have sold off most of my pretty (and expensive) ukes and now I only have seven - and four of them are KPKs.

You won't find a better sounding ukulele at any price. The all-solid construction is something you don't get at three times the price with most manufacturers. KPK makes their ukes from solid acacia (Hawaiian koa is a type of acacia), and the unique finish they put on looks fantastic - not too shiny, not dull "satin" either. But it's the sound that sets these ukes apart. There is no way to describe it without a string of silly adjectives - you really need to hear it yourself.

As someone who has learned the hard (i.e. expensive) way, you can pay a lot more for a ukulele, but you won't find one that plays as well and sounds as great as a KPK.

This Uke is Awesome......It's Beautiful, the neck is the best of all
the ukulele's I have. Including my 1960's Kamaka and my Pono Concert.
It's solid as a rock. I did put some Aquila strings on it and that just
topped it off. The guy who runs the KPK company is great. Can't go wrong.

SURE IT IS CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK SAID JASON, BUT I STILL HAVE ONE DELUXE SOPRANO HANDCRAFTED SOLID PINEAPPLE UKULELE, FEATURING ADDITIONAL ABALONE PURFLING, MAHOGANY BINDING, AND NICER ACACIA FLAMING IN THE MATCHBOOK WOOD PATTERN.
COSTS $30.00 MORE, AND TAKES A WEEK SHIPPING TO THE U S EAST COAST FROM HAWAII. GREAT!

WELL, IT ARRIVED AS ADVERTISED AND EXCEEDS ALL MY EXPECTATION. TURNS OUT THIS ACACIA WOOD PINEAPPLE LOOKS AS OUTSTANDING AS ANY BLOCKBUSTER '10' FLAMED WOOD UKE I HAVE EVER SEEN, REGARDLESS OF PRICE.
I WAS PLEASED EVERYTHING:
CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS SUCH A PLEASURE,
OUTSTANDING APPEARANCE AND FINISH TO LAST A LIFETIME,
HAWAIIAN TONE INTONATION, ACTION AND PERSONALIZED SETUP,
PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP,
OH, AND THE ENTHUSIASTIC,ADMIRING LOOKS IT GETS FROM OTHERS.
I ORDERED THE BONE BRIDGE AND NUT CONVERSION TOO, THINKING THAT A PINEAPPLE UKE MAY NOT SOUNDS CRISP AND BRIGHT ENOUGH FOR MY TASTE. HOWEVER THE STANDARD ROSEWOOD HAS TESTED TO BE A LITTLE SWEETER AND PLENTY BRIGHT TOO, SO I HAVE REFITTED FROM BONE ON THIS ONE BACK TO ROSEWOOD. I EVEN HAVE CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT THE WORTH STRINGS IT COMES WITH, SMALLER IN DIAMETER YET RICH IN WARM TONE. ANOTHER SURPRISE, THE SOPRANO FRETBOARD IS VERY EASY FOR ME TO PLAY ON, EVEN THOUGH IT HAS 16 FRETS. SO NOW OWNING 4 NICE UKES TO CHOOSE FROM, I FIND I REACH FOR THIS ONE MOST OFTEN. IT MAKES MY SONG SOUND NOTICEABLY MORE HAWAIIAN.
AND I MUST ADMIT, IT IS EYE CANDY, SHINNY SHOWY AND SWEET, AAAHHHHH!
I PLACED MY ORDER AFTER SEVERAL REASSURING EMAILS WITH JASON AT info@pilikoko.com 619.278.1213
