5.0 out of 5 stars Ok, this does it, a review that actually matters
Ok, first of all, stop reading all the reviews that simply say, "wow this album is great!" Or "KMK's worst album, nothing compared to High Society" Well, duh, frankly if you're looking for the same thing as high society, stop listening to KMK. High Society was great, but you can't expect a band to not evolve, and not change their sound. Thats stupid. I have been...

I have been a big fan since royal highness. After saint left the group i was worried. Then they dropped high society and i was blown away. The next was hidden stash 2, then rolling stoned which those three albums had the kings at the top of their game. The best beats the best raps everything was banging. The next release was fire it up very poor album in my opion. After that came no.7 a step up from fiu but still not quite there. With this release the have stepped back into the style that they are at their best in. A solid release for sure s step in the right direction. If your a fan of the older kings then this one is for you. Ive been down for the crown for years and will stay down with crown till im gone.

I have been listening to KMK for so long, and they keep amazing me with how each album evolves a little from the last, but stays true to what they are and want to be.

Now, this CD is amazing. The Kings are definitely steering more towards Hip-Hop and Kingspade beats with this CD, and I say awesome. If You're a fan of songs like "sub noize rats" unfortunately this CD has nothing for you. But, if you're like me and thought that the punk rock stuff was good, but it wasnt you're favorite, and that songs like "Soul Surfin" started really good, but then were kinda f-ed up by the fast punk chorus, then You'll enjoy this CD. Not to say that there is no punk/rock in this cd, it just takes a major backseat, and is audible on some of the songs but it is still hip hop, with a dash of punk/rock flavor.

Bottom Line: If you like the songs like "King Klick" or "Drunk in the Club" from kingspade, You will absolutely love this album, cause its full of tracks just like these!

5.0 out of 5 stars As Good as High Society, June 6, 2006
This review is from: Koast II Koast (Audio CD)
I am glad Kottonmouth finally got back to making a solid hip hop album. Many of their previous albums have been all of the place with some punk rock (which they are not good at) some acoustic (same as above) and some hip hop. D-Loc and Richter are solid MC and the beats on the album are sick. Koast II Koast is a pleasant surprise.

4.0 out of 5 stars R.I.P. Rip-hop, June 29, 2006
This review is from: Koast II Koast (Audio CD)
ok first of all, if you listen to kmk because of the Rip-Hop sounds(Punk rock/hip hop)than dont get this album,rip-hop is almost non existent on the kings 8th album, but if your a fan of the rap aspect that we see more with KingSpade or the Sub-Noize Souljaz than this album is for you, yea not all the songs are single quality, this is their 8th album and theres still plenty of good music left in em. Ive been a fan of kmk ever since I was a little kid seeing the bump video on the box for the first time and to this date have never heard a kmk song I didnt like present album included, im not gonna say wich songs are good and wich ones arent, all im gona say is for the price of the CD, you get 24 tracks totally void of crap and way more than a handful of songs guaranteed to be stuck in your head till the next album drops

3.0 out of 5 stars Some great standout tracks, June 26, 2006
This review is from: Koast II Koast (Audio CD)
There is a mixture of some great songs and some really dull songs on this cd

Good songs:

Wheres the weed at - good fast paced song about weed

Keep it Kali - Good slow chilled out song about there lifestyle in "Kali"

Bong Toke - Classic song about taking bong tokes. Slow and really stands out from the rest of the album

Neva Stop - Great fast paced song with some emotion into it. Great chorus. Its about how they are never gonna stop

No Regrets - Old school sounding song, like it should be on Hidden Stash 2. Slow but not chilled out slow. Its about how they live life to the fullest

Do the Math - Best song on the cd in my opinion. Fast paced and a great beat. Daddy X really stands out on this one.

Koast II Koast - Good slow chilled out song about all the past years

Party - Great verses but very highschool sounding chorus - "a party, a party, we're going to a party"

5.0 out of 5 stars ......continuing the progression, June 6, 2006

This review is from: Koast II Koast (Audio CD)
...This is the direction kmk is going, towards the kingspade style sound. banging beats and a good deal of party songs. for everybody that expects kmk to be the same as their Royal Highness days , this isnt the album for you...and for that matter neitehr are No. 7, or fire it up, but this album on its own is a very very well produced album , with catchy lyrics and at times great multiples by d-loc. IMO better than No. 7 and FIU for the fact that it's more diverse. While its true there is no punk on this album, as another reviewer said - on this album they seemed to focus on what they do best - beat driven songs. you have to listen to this album (and this goes for any kmk album) with an open mind, you cannot compare it to previous releases , because people change...music changes...and the fans change too....ultimatley the people will judge this album...and with pre-orders that hit record numbers....this album will most likely be one of the best ever selling KMK releases........

1.0 out of 5 stars what?, September 19, 2006

OK this is officially the last Kottonmouth Kings cd I will buy. I'm not going to support them anymore. This isnt music people. I used to love KMK, because they had such a unique energy to thier songs. Albums like High Society, Hidden Stash Vol. 2, and Rollin Stoned were clearly when they were in their prime. These guys fell way off. Cmon, Daddy X is like 50 years old now and hes become the best lyricist in the group by default, but his voice is horrible and makes it annoying to listen to. Even Richters rapping is lazy. And I dont even want to talk about D-Loc dumbing it down; his new "single" from the subnoize souljas album might be the worst attempt ive ever heard this camp do. They seem like theyre trying to dumb it down so they can cross over into the mainstream. Heck, I was in a Journeys shoe store and the music video for "everybody move" came on. And thats cool, you gotta eat, but see you cant dumb down already dumbed down music. There are no stand out tracks on this album in my opinion. The opening track "wheres the weed at" is possibly the best song on the album but isnt even very good. Equipped with corny lines like "wheres the weed at, its in my back pack but you cant touch that", they just come off as idiots. Real hip hop and rap fans laugh at these guys. If they could mature over time and express more through thier albums, I would be feeling them so much more and could give them respect as artists. They have been around over 10 years now and still havent said much other than they smoke weed have sex and live the fast life; Any one can rap about that. And on the last recent few albums they have gotten less creative in expressing it. Listen to D-Loc on the song "Elevated Minds" (from the album High Society) and then listen to him on "Wheres the Weed at" and try to tell me his creativity isnt completely gone. I give them the one star for 2 reasons: because they didnt have any weak fake @ss punk attempts on this album (even though the other songs dont make up for it); and secondly because amazon makes you give a 1 star minimum. In closing, dont support them for doing what theyre doing because its all a front. They even said it, their raps a hustle. They hustlin you. Make them broke and maybe theyll come back real some other time. I agree with the reviewer before me who said they need to spend time on an album instead of dishing them out so quick.

If you are just getting into kottonmouth kings, I recommend any of the albums I mentioned before: High Society, Hidden Stash Vol. 2, and Rollin' Stoned

1.0 out of 5 stars kmk is done, April 28, 2007
This review is from: Koast II Koast (Audio CD)
if anyone wants to hear anything decent by kmk ever again, then they need to stop buying these monthly releases and wait for them to take some time and make a solid release. then again, i dunno if kmk even has it in them anymore...these boys are old and washed up...d-locs flow is pure garbage...i could barely make it through this album as he prattles on with no rhyme or reason. not only does he barely rhyme, he doesn't even follow the beat. johnny richter, who used to be the shining star of the group, seems to have hit the creative wall as well. his verses continue to get wacker and wacker. and dont get me started on daddy x... point being the kottonmouth kings are burned out, a fact which is not surpising considering the lifestyle they lead and the subject matter they dwell upon...there are only so many variations of the weed song to be written and they have covered them all. if you are new to this, don't fall for this commercialized garbage, check out some of kmk's old stuff - hidden stash 2 (phenomal album), high society, and rollin stoned. i doubt kmk will ever return to this form again.
