My cats are big. The largest is 15 pounds. I needed to find a carrier that would fit under the seat on a plane. The Kobi carrier is the exact measurements that are allowed for in cabin travel. It has a great way of making the carrier larger once the cat carrier is under the seat and through inspection. Just like a suitcase, one can unzip the carrier on one side and the carrier becomes two inches longer. I have carried one of my cats to the vets, using the carrier. I used the strap and easily carried him to the car and to the vets. I also like the tray and the insert that can be washed in a washing machine. I even bought the waterproof bowl that fits in the side pocket. Also, there are covers for the sides of the carrier. If one wants the cat to be able to look out, one can just roll up the cloth sides and the cat will have instant windows made out of mesh. My cats can be destructive and they did could not tear the mess. It is a very cleverly designed carrier.

I was really impressed with the build quality of the Kobi. But as other reviewers have mentioned, it has some usability shortcomings. In my case, the most serious of these is that it fails to fully retain its form and height thus further reducing the pet's comfort, already compromised by shortage of space. This is the case even with both doors zipped shut. My 9.6 pound mini Dachshund cannot stand upright without supporting some of the Kobi's weight on her back, and she strongly resents this.

I was able to mitigate this by snugly fitting an arch, formed from 1/2 inch PEX tubing, inside each end of the Kobi. This worked pretty well as long as the length expander was not opened. But my pet is 21 inches nose-to-butt, and even the extra length was not quite enough for her to stretch out. Furthermore, the Kobi does not carry well using the shoulder strap when the extender is opened.

Regarding the weak magnetic snaps that others have mentioned, this was not a serious problem for me. All but one of these had adequate retention if carefully fitted to its mate. It helps to use both hands for this, one on each snap member, so the alignment is precise. Realistically though, the magnetic snaps are only used is to retain the mesh covers. I don't see much need to cover the mesh at all, and doing so compromises ventilation.

I really wanted to keep the Kobi, but I had to return it for a defective mechanical snap that fastens the top mesh cover to a carry handle. So I decided to replace it with a Petsfit Comfort Expandable model. This model is not of the Kobi build quality, but it is adequate and provides more room; especially height.

My Kobi was the Regular size. The manufacturer also mentions a Large size, but I could not find any sellers of this model.

I just used it for the first time on transatlantic travel to carrier my 11lb Maine Coone. Being able to see out and get enough air made her as comfortable as she could be during such a long travel time, about 20 hours total. The flaps held by magnets worked well. The whole carrier is very well constructed with heavy duty materials and zippers. It fit well under the seats on Delta 757 and Air France 747 top deck . This is the best experience my cat has had in a carrier. She actually was calm and slept some of the way.

The main reason I decided this bag because it's wider than any other carrier (14") and seemed to ventilate well bc of the 4 side mesh windows. The carrier looks so better than what it looks like in the pictures. I've been travelling with my dog internationally with other bags but nothing feels like this one. This bag gives spacious room for my dog to snug in and lay down comfortably. I don't care much about the floppy top since my dog lays down anyway.

The downside is that the magnets don't hold the shade and the bag is a bit on the heavy side. I only wish it was lighter since I have to carry for it for a long time while travelling.

The length extender is a good function but when we extended the length, my Kobi doesn't hold its shape. PERIOD. Luckily, my dog doesn't need to use the function so I'm good with this.

I would recommend everyone to buy the largest one they provided even tho it might be a bit bigger than what airlines approve. We can squeeze the bag under the seat anyway.

Leave the carrier out for a couple day before introducing your dog to the bag so the smell from the bag is gone. My dog sniffed around for a bit after she jumped right into the bag and played in there. She seems to love it. :)

My dog info: 6 lb with 10" body lenth and abt 10" shoulder height.

Hope this info is helpful

I travel a lot to meet up w/ friends and sometimes the hotel isn't dog friendly( I unfortunately own one of the few Westies that won't bark). I love that the windows can be covered so it looks like an ordinary piece of luggage. I own a 17 lbs Westie so I wasn't expecting her to fit in any carrier where she could stand and move around, but she can lay down comfortably, crawl if she needs to turn around, and length she probably has a few inches of extra paw space( I don't see anything over 25 lbs fitting in this carrier w/ room to spare) It seems to be built well and I'm very satisfied with the quality. It's a bit pricey, but it was the only carrier I could find that could pass for luggage while keeping my dog comfortable. I think it was worth it though since my dog usually gets special permission to go to festivals or backstage, but of course the venue ppl have to feel like they won and tell me I need to put her in a carrier or bag. It also has a seat belt option so I've been using that as well. If I ever need to fly and I'm bringing her it's good to know that it is airline approved.
