5.0 out of 5 stars Moving and Expressive in Its Calmness, July 9, 2009
By
Karl W. Nehring (Ostrander, OH USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Kobialka: Pathless Journey (A Tribute to Toru Takemitsu) (Audio CD)
Daniel Kobialka is a classically trained violinist who is interested in a broad spectrum of musical expression. On Pathless Journey, which is subtitled "A Tribute to Toru Takemitsu," Kobialka presents nine compositions that evoke the spirit of the late Japanese composer. His principal instrument on this recording is a Zeta Polyphonic Violin, which can be connected through a MIDI system to produce all manner of exotic sounds, but he also plays a traditional acoustic violin, and receives musical support from Wendy Adaie on various flutes, John Singer on shakahuchi, and an electronic ensemble called KOBLSAI.

As you might expect of music dedicated to Maestro Takemitsu, the overall mood is one of calm and reflection, of shimmers and shadows. The texture, however, is rich and full, as is the sonic palette, the net result not something wispy, but rich and full, yet modest.

Some might write this off as New Age, but to these ears at least, there is much more going on here than in most New Age productions. There is genuine music here. It may be calm and reflective, but it is also moving and expressive.

Like the seamless sequence itself, this peaceful music will gently energize the body, allowing the dust of a busy day to be swept away and replaced by an inner calm, a harmony with all life.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best for yoga and massage, July 7, 2008
This review is from: Kobialka: Pathless Journey (A Tribute to Toru Takemitsu) (Audio CD)
I listened to this CD during a recent massage. At the end, I asked the therapist what was playing...she gave it to me.
It is simply fabulous! The sounds fill the air, but allow my mind to explore possibilities. Into deep meditative states. Infinite relaxation. Stunning orchestrations and simplicity at the same time.
We wil be making this album available to all of our clients in our new spa locations around the world!

5.0 out of 5 stars Melts Clients into Emotional Relaxatiion, March 5, 2010
This review is from: Pathless Journey (MP3 Download)
Combined with water fountains, antiques or Zen environment "Pathless Journey" transcends a common room into professional ambiance. Hands down this CD is a client favorite in my Psychic Tea House. The music winds into subliminal paths of light, continues dynamics of emotional ups and downs, no vocals, and melts into the drama of my readings beautifully. Year after year it has proven to add spiritual drama and impact to my work.
