5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good!
The Wal-Mart's around here (NC) have been selling these units on clearance for $50. I'm honestly amazed how good the sound is from this relatively small unit. It's very clear with great range. Even low-range has a nice thump to it.

First, be warned ahead of time that this unit must be controlled with its remote. There is virtually no functionality without the remote. Second, be warned the remote is a super cheap plastic piece of crap. If your remote breaks you're stuck in the last mode you used, either Fm radio or ipod. You can't control this unit without the remote. I just tried changing the time. The remote won't work to do it. The time flashes, I push the buttons to change the hour, and nothing happens. I've only had this unit a month, and I can say without a doubt it is a piece of junk that won't be working at all in a short time. Find yourself another unit, preferably one that has controls on the unit not on some worthless remote. You were warned.

The Wal-Mart's around here (NC) have been selling these units on clearance for $50. I'm honestly amazed how good the sound is from this relatively small unit. It's very clear with great range. Even low-range has a nice thump to it.

Now I don't have an ipod right now, I'm just using the AUX input. However, this device can apparently control any ipod avaliable, including ipod Videos. Yes, it's got TV out.

Build quality is actually very good. It's rather heavy and everything feels very tight. The three buttons (power, volume up and down) all have a satisfying click to them. I wish I could say the same about the credit card remote (which is required for most features) but it gets the job done.

The display is just a basic, inverted LCD. The clock always displays, but also is stuck in 24-hour mode. To the right shows the station or volume. That's about it; perhaps more avaliable when an ipod is being used, but again, I don't have one.

All in all, highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Construction, March 14, 2010
This review is from: Koda IP915 iStereo Music & Video Docking Clock Radio for iPod (Electronics)
I bought this one for bedroom.

Build Quality is good for the price.

I disassembled this one. Inner construction is good as well.

Default sound is too warm.

I think crossover value is too high, approximately 8kHz.

I increased loudspeaker network capacitor to 15uF and inserting something to bass port.

I got more clear sound.

3.0 out of 5 stars pretty good, December 29, 2009
This review is from: Koda IP915 iStereo Music & Video Docking Clock Radio for iPod (Electronics)
I just got one of these over the holidays. As others have mentioned, the remote is required to control this thing. You have on/off and volume on the speaker-clock unit and that is it. The main unit itself appears to be very well made. It has some 'heft' to it and is very solid. The sound quality is surprisingly good overall and the bass end of the frequency range does not lack. It sounds like a much bigger unit than it is. It works great with my ipod classic and the remote allows you to fully control the ipod through the system.

The down sides? In stark contrast to the construction of the main unit, the remote control is a cheap plastic piece of junk. Very cheesy. My other big complaint is that the lowest volume setting is quite loud. Much too loud for bedroom use - which seems like its intended use considering it is a clock radio. The FM radio works better than most clock radios but does not pull stations in as well as my old portable stereo - it does get the job done well enough so I guess that may not be a negative.

This is a great product. Hard to find anywhere but Amazon and a couple other obscure sites. Works extremely well with iPods. Sound quality for the price is excellent and has other inputs for Aux, etc. Remote works well. One of the few attractive iPod docks I've seen. I highly recommend this radio/clock/ipod dock.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, but..., July 5, 2010
This review is from: Koda IP915 iStereo Music & Video Docking Clock Radio for iPod (Electronics)
Overall, this stereo works fine with older ipods. It is not compatible with touch ipod or iphones. The sound is good, decent bass too. However, my iStereo picks up air traffic radio communications between the jet and the tower. The air traffic radio will bleed in to the FM broadcast to the point you can hear the jet better than the FM station. Interesting but annoying. Also as info, I'm at least 15 miles from the airport and the aircraft are at least 1.5 miles high as they pass over my house so its not a proximity issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars So good; I'm buying my 4th one right now!, December 22, 2009
This review is from: Koda IP915 iStereo Music & Video Docking Clock Radio for iPod (Electronics)
There really is no ipod speaker better than this one, especially for the price. I have an ipod dock/speaker in almost every room of my house and in several of my business's. This ipod speaker is absolutely excellent at any price. I have other name brands such as bose, altec, ihome, jvc, etc... too many to name here! Believe me this is a GREAT sounding speaker. I'm buying my 4th one today for my restaurant. It sounds like a full size stereo system. Buy it! You'll be glad you did!

OK.

I brought this iStereo to my buddies place to compare to his Bose Sounddock portable - which is over $300 - so about 6times the cost of this unit, or more.

First, we played a bunch of different songs from our iphones - side by side comparison:

-volume: similar max loundness

-clarity: very similar - this unit is a little better with the highs: percussions are more accurate as this iStereo has dedicated silk dome tweeters whereas the Bose has NO tweeters - just 2 "twiddlers" total

-bass: I'd admit the Sounddock does have better "thump" ... not that the iStereo has no bass.. it is just not as "thumpy" - it is somewhat more "boomy" which is not always good. Bose uses a transmission line like "waveguide" system that does help this thump.

-remotes: There's nothing wrong with the iStereo remote... it is very functionable - volume, bass, trebble, dimmer, menu control for ipod, etc... the Bose only has volume and forward, backward!!!

OVERALL: both are comparable to each other. Prior to my unveiling of the price of the iStereo: my buddy admits "THEY BOTH SOUND GOOD!"

...

...

Then I told him how much it was.

Here's my problem: How can a product that is less than 1/6 of the price be comparable??

ABSOLUTELY, REDICULOUSLY AMAZING!
