Frugal with ink while making excellent prints,
By The Putze "Marty" (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kodak® EasyShare® 5300 All - in - One Printer / Scanner / Copier (Electronics)
I purchased this inkjet printer as a replacement for a Canon inkjet that I basically "ran into the ground". The Canon printhead got a very bad case of the "jitters", and I apparently wore the printer itself out. Replacing the ink cartridges, even with a new printhead, didn't take care of the jitters. The printer actually "typed letters with a stutter" ... No kidding.
As with most buyers of electronic equipment, I was skeptical about this Kodak printer. However, I was pleasantly surprised. All I needed was a copier/scanner/printer without a FAX, and I was "hoping" for a printer that wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg while feeding it ink. The surprise I found was that this kodak printer is VERY frugal with ink, both black and the colors. I have found the new way of putting ink on paper extends the life of the ink cartridges while making absolutely excellent color prints. For best results make sure you use only kodak paper to print your photos on. "Better" quality multi-purpose printer paper helps in the presentation of regular printed documents. I am very happy with this printer. The replacement ink cartridges are reasonably priced, and I don't have to replace them very often. I highly recommend this printer for students. The "consummables" cost is very reasonable, while keeping the quality of output very high. You may be very surprised at the quality of the color prints. Kodak did a very good job in this design. ~wma

Great features, BUT...,
By William Ludwig (North Arlington NJ USA) - See all my reviews

I purchased the Kodak 5300 less than a year ago. I just got off the phone with Kodak support and I will soon be the recipient of a THIRD printhead.
After a while both the original and the first replacement (free from Kodak) stopped printing reds completely and other colors faded. "Deep cleaning" didn't work. (By the way, CS recommends cleaning the heads every time you change ink cartridges.) Mine could be a lemon, I don't know. However, customer service at Kodak (not farmed out as far as I can determine) is GREAT. I waited less than a minute each time I called. When it does work, the colors are spectacular and the scanning and copying are great, too. My problem COULD be that I seldom use it--I do most of my black and whit printing with an HP LaserJet P1006 and save the Kodak only for photos and color CD covers.

Horrible Printer!!,

I got this as a Christmas present last year and am now giving up on it and buying a new printer. This printer is the worst I have ever had and has been a constant source of frustration. Even when working correctly, which is a rarity, it is painfully slow. I would estimate that even a black and white single copy takes close to thirty seconds. The print head has had to be replaced twice and now I am experiencing a new problem with uneven printing, despite a new cartridge and print head. When the black ink runs out, you cannot print in color and should the color ink run out, you cannot print in black and white even if you set the printer preference to black and white only: you must have two full cartridges in order to print . . . and good luck finding those cartridges. You will not find them at discount department stores. You will need to go to an office supply store or a store such as Staples or Best Buy. These cartridges may only cost $10 to buy but they are hard to find and do not last nearly as long as claimed. Save yourself the frustration. Buy something else.
