Frugal with ink while making excellent prints,
By The Putze "Marty" (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kodak® EasyShare® 5300 All - in - One Printer / Scanner / Copier (Electronics)
I purchased this inkjet printer as a replacement for a Canon inkjet that I basically "ran into the ground". The Canon printhead got a very bad case of the "jitters", and I apparently wore the printer itself out. Replacing the ink cartridges, even with a new printhead, didn't take care of the jitters. The printer actually "typed letters with a stutter" ... No kidding. As with most buyers of electronic equipment, I was skeptical about this Kodak printer. However, I was pleasantly surprised. All I needed was a copier/scanner/printer without a FAX, and I was "hoping" for a printer that wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg while feeding it ink. The surprise I found was that this kodak printer is VERY frugal with ink, both black and the colors. I have found the new way of putting ink on paper extends the life of the ink cartridges while making absolutely excellent color prints. For best results make sure you use only kodak paper to print your photos on. "Better" quality multi-purpose printer paper helps in the presentation of regular printed documents. I am very happy with this printer. The replacement ink cartridges are reasonably priced, and I don't have to replace them very often. I highly recommend this printer for students. The "consummables" cost is very reasonable, while keeping the quality of output very high. You may be very surprised at the quality of the color prints. Kodak did a very good job in this design. ~wma

Great features, BUT...,

I purchased the Kodak 5300 less than a year ago. I just got off the phone with Kodak support and I will soon be the recipient of a THIRD printhead. After a while both the original and the first replacement (free from Kodak) stopped printing reds completely and other colors faded. "Deep cleaning" didn't work. (By the way, CS recommends cleaning the heads every time you change ink cartridges.) Mine could be a lemon, I don't know. However, customer service at Kodak (not farmed out as far as I can determine) is GREAT. I waited less than a minute each time I called. When it does work, the colors are spectacular and the scanning and copying are great, too. My problem COULD be that I seldom use it--I do most of my black and whit printing with an HP LaserJet P1006 and save the Kodak only for photos and color CD covers.

Horrible Printer!!,
By Sophie (Fredericksburg) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kodak® EasyShare® 5300 All - in - One Printer / Scanner / Copier (Electronics)
I got this as a Christmas present last year and am now giving up on it and buying a new printer. This printer is the worst I have ever had and has been a constant source of frustration. Even when working correctly, which is a rarity, it is painfully slow. I would estimate that even a black and white single copy takes close to thirty seconds. The print head has had to be replaced twice and now I am experiencing a new problem with uneven printing, despite a new cartridge and print head. When the black ink runs out, you cannot print in color and should the color ink run out, you cannot print in black and white even if you set the printer preference to black and white only: you must have two full cartridges in order to print . . . and good luck finding those cartridges. You will not find them at discount department stores. You will need to go to an office supply store or a store such as Staples or Best Buy. These cartridges may only cost $10 to buy but they are hard to find and do not last nearly as long as claimed. Save yourself the frustration. Buy something else.

Excellent Prints, Poor dependability,
By Lee Franke (Frisco, Texas) - See all my reviews

I purchased this printer about the time they first came out. The prints are very good quality and the printing speed is not noticable (I would put it about average). The cost of the ink is very low and it they cartridges seems to last quite awhile. The downside, is that the printhead needs repeated replacing (I've gone thru at least 4). One lasted all of 5 prints. Kodak does right for its customers and they continue to send me a free one every time it goes out. But it is very much a hassle.

Disapointed with this product. Arrived on my door step non functioning. Had to get replacement printhead right off the bet to get it working. Worked ok for few months but burned through ink like a Hummer H2. It doesn't matter if the ink is cheap, if you use three times as much. It finally broke again. Scanner failed and printhead failed. I'm now on my second printer, and third printhead and it failed again. You do the math.

Inferior All-in-one 5300 printer,

I have had my Kodak All-in-One 5300 printer for about a year and a half. The scanner has never worked despite repeated attempts to get Kodak to fix the problem or replace the printer. I have gone thru 4 print heads and I am way tired of that. The ink may seem cheaper up front, but it doesn't last as long as some other brands of ink and with a print head that constantly wears out, it is very frustrating and not worth the little you are saving. My experience with Kodak has not been a good one. I really wanted to like this printer, but it just hasn't lived up to Kodak's reputation. I have both a HP and an Epson that do a much better job (faster and don't break down) and cost less. Think twice before you purchase the Kodak printer.

Easily set up, absolutely no problems, make sure you follow the directions in order. Prints great photos, good text although sometimes it is streaky, fine for my purposes. It is noisy but you don't need earplugs to use it.

Kodak EasyShare 5300 Evaluation,
This review is from: Kodak® EasyShare® 5300 All - in - One Printer / Scanner / Copier (Electronics)
The printer was easy to setup and use. The control panel is intuitive and everything worked as advertised. I did have a small problem with the scan feature until I realized the problem was a faulty USB cable. The delivery time on shipping was fantastic. I believe that the printer was delivered late on the third day after purchase. My overall experience with this purchase, shipment, setup, and functionality would have to be """VERY GOOD""".

I hate this printer.....for all of the reasons already stated. Bought it last year after seeing an infommercial. Was just trying to save money in the long run on ink....not worth the hassle. Hated it!

Not happy with this device,
By Happy Pappy "Happy Pappy" (Long Island, New York, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kodak® EasyShare® 5300 All - in - One Printer / Scanner / Copier (Electronics)
When this device is functioning; it works adequately. The scanning and copying functions are acceptable. The design is relatively intuitive and the unit is fairly compact given the number of stated functions.However........ Everytime the DEVICE determines that EITHER cartridge is empty, it prevents you from doing anything with it until you replace the cartridge. No scanning, no copying, no printing, nothing. That just doesn't seem right. In my opinion, the cartridges are very overpriced and I am not satisfied with the quantity of prints which I receive from the cartridges. I also find the print quality of photos to be lacking. I also expected a greater print volume from these cartridges. I can't prove it, but it seems as if the older the cartridge gets; the less pages you seem to be able to print. I have also experienced more than a few odd occurences with the control software requiring updates and reinstallation. Given my experiences, I would not recommend this printer nor any printer like it. |
