Perfect Scanner at a Perfect Price,

Let me start by saying I've used numerous scanners at my office (which is going paperless) and this is one of the best quality scanners I've used.I've used Xerox scanners, Cannon scanners, and other "better model" Kodak scanners. For the price, this model can't be beat. Plus, this model can scan both sides (ie "duplex") if you want it to. It rarely jams and only does so when the papers are "roughed up" (ie creases and the corners are folded over each other). For $400, this model is just as good as the Kodak scanmates that cost twice that amount. This is definetely a top buy and a no-brainer if you're looking for a scanner to turn your office paperless.

While this is not a comparison to other scanners, for quick, OCR, double sided scanning with moderate sheet feeding capability, this scanner is very effective. For the cost, it turns out very quick work of graphics and OCRed text of business documents. It is a very small footprint. The feed guides and especially the outfeed plastics are a bit on the flimsy side so care must be taken to prevent damage. The software has a feature for auto-alignment so that any document misalignment going through the scan cycle will generally be straightened. There are many other detailed features that should be considered but from a high-level perspective, this scanner is very effective.

This scanner has a very small footprint and good quality. My only complaint is that the out-tray (or folding shelf, really) is not connected well. Just after a week of having this unit I had the shelf folded up and just flipped it, not hard, either, to start a scan. Well, the little plastic pins that hold the shelf to the piece that is connected to the scanner sheared off. If these little protrusions are meant to be a safety item, intended to break rather than have someone brush past and flip the entire unit on the floor, they did the job but a bit too effectively. The weight of the shelf was sufficient to crack off the protrusions. Now, if the design allowed for the replacement of these "pins" without having to purchase a new shelf, that would not be too bad (sort of like a shear pin in an outboard motor of years past.)Otherwise, this is a fine scanner with easy to use software.

DO NOT BUY THIS SCANNER!,
This review is from: Kodak Scanmate I1120 Scanner (Office Product)
I bought this scanner due to it's attractive price a little over a year ago and i'm planning to throw it in the trash as soon as i can get a new one.First big issue, scanning software. It barely works on Windows 7, even with their updated windows 7 software and drivers. If you have windows 7 make sure you are using a 3rd party software that handles your scanning device. Second, feeder is terrible. About 6-8 months into the devices life the device stopped feeding properly, jamming all the time because it would feed a page and a half or 3 pages. Called tech support they had me buy new parts costing 100 bucs. After waiting a month for the parts to arrive i put it in and it worked normally for around a month before it started having the exact same issues again. Now it's even worse the device won't even feed 1 page at a time properly anymore. Third scan quality, you can read everything just fine and the colors look ok. But our office has a Fujitsu downstairs and comparing our scanned documents is like a painting and a kids crayon picture when they are on the exact same settings. All in all this scanner was a piece of trash if you used it with any frequency for over 6 months our fujitsu downstairs has lasted us 5 years and it does 30 images a day, at least, and is still going fine. I will never buy a Kodak scanner again.

I am sorry to say this scanner was a big disappointment. I studied all the reviews and chose the i1120 over the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500, mostly because the Kodak had the Twain driver and the Fujitsu did not. For my purposes that really did not matter anyway. It took a week and a level 3 tech to get the software to work properly. The paper guides are not tall enough so the paper stack frequently tilts to the side and makes it rough going thru the scanner. The scanner is extremely sensitive and picks up everything including dust and creases in the paper. I could get rid of the dust (or noise) with the "lone pixel" adjustment but the creases would have to be removed manually from each scan using a cut and delete tool. It sounds rough when it scans and slows down a lot when scanning at 400 dpi. I sent it back and got the Fujitsu S1500 which I like a lot better. It is fast, smooth, and makes very nice scans.

Paper ONLY,

I have an i1210 Kodak Scanner as well, which is a much more expensive scanner than this one, so keep that in mind as you read my review.I think this is a great machine if all you have to scan is plain paper. This means nothing can be attached to the paper (pictures, stickers, etc.) or it will not feed correctly in the scanner (put blatantly it eats your paper). There are only rollers in the middle and not on the edges of the paper as well, so it does not feed evenly. It does an ok job of recognizing a blank back page, but not great. The big plus is that it runs at about the same speed of the computer, so you aren't waiting on the computer to catch up for large jobs.

Great Workstation Scanner,

This scanner is a great way to stop users from having to leave their desk for just a handful of pages to scan. They are small, quiet, and reliable. In my office alone we have about 6 or more of these little guys. The Kodak software that is bundled, I am not to fond of. We use regular old Acrobat 9 Pro to handle our scanning needs to insert new data into existing pdfs.I would recommend this scanner to my colleagues. It would get a 5 star rating if it were a bit faster. 200dpi is fine for us.

Cheap plastic trays - hard to make documents clear,
This review is from: Kodak Scanmate I1120 Scanner (Office Product)
Our firm has purchased many of these for our desks as we have gone paperless. Very difficult to adjust to get clear images, especially on mail that has been folded. Great scans when the paper has not been folded. The plastic output tray was very cheaply made. I have had mine for just a few months and regularly move the tray out of the way in its up position. Just put it down to scan something and the plastic holder where the output tray is allowed to fold out of the way just broke off. In looking for a replacement they are over $40. Very unhappy with the product.
