This lens works great with the Kodak playsport. When I purchased this I had some conserns based on the picture that they show and on the 1 review that was negitive. First off I was concerned that the lens would cut off the corners of the movie screen making the picture round rather than filling up the whole screen, and 2 was it truly a fish eye lens. Well to answer the question yes the lens does does take up the whole screen and does not cut off the corners and it is a true fish eye lens that makes a consiterable difference in the field of view. It comes with 2 magnetic rings which fit perfectly inside the recessed area of the lens on the playsport, just coving up the numbers about the lens size. when the lens is removed you can't really tell the magnetic ring is on there. The lens itself widens up the field of view to take more of your subject into the picture without having to back up 3 miles. Overall I am very plesed with this purchase and would recommend this for their Kodak Playsport.

Style Name: Wide AngleVerified Purchase
I purchased the Kodak Wide-Angle Lens to go with my Kodak zi8 mini camcorder. I primarily use the camera to shoot punk bands in small clubs and I found I needed a wider angle to get closer to the action.

The setup was easy: Stick the magnetic ring to the camera, let is set for a day, then stick the magnetic lens to the ring. I've seen lots of complaints about the magnetic ring not adhering to the camera, but I haven't had any problems. Just make sure to clean the camera surface before sticking the ring to it and let it sit for a day to "cure". I've used this thing in some pretty extreme environments and the magnetic ring has not budged.

For the price, it does what it's supposed to do (widen the image) but don't expect miracles.

The lens is only "fair" in quality. There is a lot of distortion around the edges of the image. I don't mean that "stretchy/fisheye" kind of distortion - I'm talking about a degraded/blurry image around the edges. Since these videos are primarily for uploading on YouTube, I'm not worried about the distortion too much.

The biggest problem I've found is with the lens getting knocked off the camera. Getting slammed around in a crowded room or getting whacked by flailing arms, hair or crowd surfers will happen from time to time, but with no tether to keep the lens attached to the camera, when it's knocked off, it's gone.

After having it knocked off a few times, I was able to find and re-attach (and in all honesty, the lens is structurally well-built - after getting kicked around and stepped on, the lens was just fine) to keep shooting. But it was knocked off the last time when the guitarists long hair swiped across the camera, taking the lens with it. It was not recovered.

Perhaps if Kodak placed a little tether ring on the lens, allowing the user to loop a string through and attach it to the camera, I would give it another star, but with this and the fair-to-poor image quality, I give it 3 out of 5 stars... and that third star is only because of the low price.

Purchased this lens for my Kodak Playsport. It is very easy to attach and is a real help when shooting inside or groups of people. Other reviewers seem to have an issue with 2x tape and a magnet....well how else do you think it is going to be attached? Really...these small cameras and cell phones don't have lenses to support threads like an slr or most camcorders. I have had mine for almost 3 months and have had NO problems with the lens or the attachment ring coming off and I live in MN where it is currently very much winter at the moment. You just need to make sure the area around the lens is clean first and use some common sense when using it. The magnet is very strong but yes, you can knock the lens off if you try! I also have the fisheye and you can get some really neat effects with it.

I bought this lens from Amazon after ordering one from another discount site from Hong Kong, and having it never show up. What a great lens! Very clear picture, easy installation, no vignetting, and stays put. The only drawback with this lens is that it's made for the Playsport and other Kodak Cameras, but it is NOT waterproof. I've taken it underwater with my Playsport a few times, and it immediately fogs up inside with condensation (yes, inside the lens itself, not just on the lens surface). It then takes 24 hours++ submerged in an airtight container of rice to get the condensation out of the lens. Pain. Well worth the money though. I would recommend it to anyone.

The Kodak Fisheye lens gives you a great image for the price. Like other reviewers have stated, the magnetic mount although secure can fall off very easily from jarring. This is my second fisheye lens. The first was lost and was never found. I use this lens with a Kodak zi8 and playsport.

The lens itself is great and it helps provide more steady shots when using the camera handheld.

I was determined not to lose this lens so I grabbed a washer I had in my nuts and bolts assortment, tied an elastic band to it, hot glued the washer with elastic strap tied around it to the lens then attached the other end of the elastic strap to where the wrist strap attaches to the camera. I just used stuff I had around the house to do this. The washer I used fit snug at the base of the lens.

The video just shows some closeups of the lens and washer and elastic strap.

I was skeptical as to how good would this fisheye lens be. As with the rest of my Kodak Playsport camera and accessories, it is AWESOME! The magnetic connection is so cool as easy to deal with. The lens actually provides quite a dramatic effect, more than I expected from such a tiny lens and camera system. Very High-end touch for such a small price. Continues to work in/out and underwater as well!

I bought this to use mainly for skateboarding videos, but also for my two toddlers, and so far, it's been awesome. It gives me a lot more freedom to be closer to the action without having to crop out people/things in the scene. I'm not shooting too many photos, so the blurred edges aren't an issue for me. For the skateboarding videos that I've shot, the optics are not bad at all.

The metal ring has stayed in place so far. With the magnet being so small, if something catches the lens, it will pop right off, so you have to be careful, but other than that, I'm very happy with the purchase.

Style Name: TelephotoVerified Purchase
I originally ordered the magnetically attached 2X telephoto lens and it was apparently back ordered. Amazon emailed me to say they were delivering it earlier than expected. What I received was not a magnetic lens at all but rather a screw on lens. Like the magnetic version, you have to glue a metal attachment ring to the glass lens cover and let it set for 24 hours. The lens then screws on to this ring which is probably more secure compared to the magnetic lens attachment. The lens comes with two attachment rings and a bunch of additional glue which was a good thing because I have two Zx3 (the original playsport) cameras.

So the big question is how does the lens perform? My initial indoors test suggested the lens produced a pretty soft image. Today I tested it outdoors in better light and made two comparisons at different powers. The first test compared the 2X lens against the equivalent digital zoom. My impression was again verified. As far as 2X goes the lens is not as good as the digital zoom which is pretty disappointing.

The second test compared full digital zoom without the lens to the equivalent reduced digital zoom with the lens. There was noticeably less dithering with the lens due to the reduced digital zoom that more than offset the poor lens quality.

My conclusion is that the lens, while it could be better, does improve the picture compared to using full digital zoom. However at lesser magnifications, you may be better off without it and just use digital zoom. I'd be very much interested to hear if anyone else has similar results.

This is a great lens. I highly recommend this product.

The only complaint I have is the design.
First, the lens has two parts, macro and wide angle, that are screwed together. To use the macro lens, you have to unscrew and remove the top/front lens. However, you have nowhere to put this lens while using the macro lens. If you stick the lens in your pocket, lint and dust sticks to the lens.
The second issue with the design is that the front lens cap has to be removed prior to attaching it to the magnetic ring on the camera. Otherwise you risk the lens being detached from the camera and dropping.

I was in the market for a wide angle lens for my Playsport ZX-5, and I am glad I ordered the Kodak wide angle lens. I read a lot of reviews and product descriptions about these accessory lenses. Many of them mention that the attachment is magnetic. However, the Kodak wide angle lens is not magnetic. Instead Kodak developed a small base ring with threads that is placed around the original camera lens, and the accessory lens screws into the base ring. Removal of the lens takes only a few seconds and detaches in a couple of turns. The lens also comes with lens covers, an extra base ring, and several spare glue rings for the base ring.

This lens does what it is supposed to do. There is a noticeable difference when using this lens. I took a picture of an object that was located approximately 3 feet away from me with and without the lens. Upon comparison of the pictures, I noticed that the wide angle lens expanded my window of view at least 1 foot around more than the picture without the lens. Keep in mind that the lens will give the picture or video a slight curvature. Do not be fooled by Kodak's sample pictures; there will be some distortion. Since I shoot action videos, I do not mind. It gives the video a larger field of view with a cool curvature, but not on the fisheye level.

Since I also like to shoot video underwater with my camera, I wondered how well this lens performed underwater. The video attached is an underwater test in my aquarium. I tested the lens underwater several times, and the video is just of one test. The first thing I noticed is that upon submersion of the lens, the video acquires a soft focus and becomes slightly hazy. I tested the lens with and without macro. No matter the setting, the lens still gave a soft focus. My other concern with underwater shooting was that I didn't know if the lens would take on water. After my tests, I detached the lens and disassembled it. The lens unscrews into two lenses. In between the lenses there was no water. However, between the base ring and the bottom lens, there was minimal moisture. My conclusion is that the lens can be used underwater, however some video quality will be lost.

Overall, I cannot wait to start using this lens. I am tired of not getting the complete shot because I was too close to the action. The simple screw attachment makes removal a breeze and the lens is small for easy pocket storage. This lens is definitely worth the $20!

[NOTE: I noticed that macro will only focus so much on the playsport. Disassemble the lens into the two separate lenses and just use the lens that screws into the base while in macro mode. The close-ups are very crisp. However this is only for really close shots (within an inch away from the object that is being captured).]
