Kodak C650--A real buy,
By
This review is from: Kodak C650 Advantix Zoom APS Camera (Electronics)
I recently lost my camera; to replace it, I purchased (Thru Amazon) a regular 35mm point & shoot camera of a well known make. It works fine, but when I was later looking thru Amazon's site I noticed the Kodak C650 with a factory rebate. I ordered one just to try out Kodak's APS film format; considering the price, I wan't expecting much of a camera. However, I am very much pleased with the camera. Film costs more; it costs more for processing, and you get exactly 24 exposures per 24 exposure roll (no extra exposures as with regular 35mm) but I think it's worth the extra. It takes a wide picture, so you don't have to back off a quarter mile to get a shot of your cruise ship; the downside of the 24mm lens is that the telephoto part won't get you very close, but I don't use telephoto very much anyway. To my untrained (and trifocal handicapped) eyes, the pictures look great. The C650 is smaller and lighter than a 35mm camera and putting in a new roll of film is a snap. The pop-up flash keeps you from getting your finger in front of the flash. The developed negatives are stored inside the original film canister for safekeeping. If you want a simple camera to replace your old Brownie and if you don't mind the additional cost of film and processing with the Advantix film (remember the advantages here!), this camera is a great deal.

Excellent camera, for an excellent price!,

I have recently recieved this Kodak C650 Advantix camera. It is really great! When you turn the camera on, the lens' comes out and the flash pops up. It is very simple to use. It has a decent 2x zoom (although you can find better zooms in this price range), it features a title imprinting, a date (or time) imprinting, a self timer, a pop up flash (to reduce red-eye), 3 print formats, and much more. Even when the camera is off, it shows the date and time on the LCD screen. I definitely recomment this camera.

My wife received this camera as a graduation gift 5 years ago. After 5 years of amazing service it finally passed on. We enjoyed the picture quality and variety so much that we decided to buy the exact same camera. We are looking forward to another 5 years of great pictures from mediocre photographers.

Nice Mid-Level Camera,

This camera is a very reasonably priced mid-level APS camera. If you haven't used an APS camera before, you will be amazed at the ease. The auto-loading of film is great, and the photo-format selection is very cool. I particularly like the panoramic option. Index prints, instead of negatives, are great. The Kodak APS is a pretty good APS. It's not a top of the line model, but it is far better than most entry level models. Besides, most people don't need a top of the line camera for family photos. The incremental gain in picture quality is greatly outweighed by the increased cost (I own a higher end APS as well). The features on this camera are all the features the average person needs. This is the perfect price point and picture quality for the vast majority of people. If you still own 35mm, step up to APS, the quality and ease is worth it.

everything is great except...,

I am planning an overseas trip this winter, so I figured that I should buy a new camera. Something that is small, compact, and great quality. Which this particular camera is, with no doubt. There is just one major flaw in the camera. When you use the self timer, the glare from the red indicator light appears on the lower half of all photos. I have had good luck with Kodak for years, and I don't think this is a reflection on the other cameras they have, just this particular model.

Good for price...However...,

For the price, this is a pretty good camera. Extremely light, and has great options like the 3 picture options(C,P,H); and a good 2x zoom. However, I have found that in low light situations the flash tends to "white-out" people, and it's also not very sharp (tends to be blurry). Bright light (most outdoor) turns-the sky-washed out. Most pictures turn out OK, but I've had a bunch of blurry landscapes and problems with night/indoor scenes.

Good deal for an exceptional APS Camera,
By Brandi Marlow (Parkersburg, WV United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kodak C650 Advantix Zoom APS Camera (Electronics)
When I moved out on my own I only had one little cheap 35mm camera, anyways I ended up giving to my son and decided it was time for a good camera. I searched for weeks for a decent camera with a great price and this is the one I bought. It is really easy to operate and had very good picture quality. In past reviews I have read how people were putting this camera down for the film being more expensive, that is such an exaggeration. I guess its all in how much you want your memories to stand out!It had a red eye point, so that you dont get pics with red eye.(its a lens to look at when you take the photo)Another great thing about it is the timer, so you can get great shots of the family without having to say "I was the one taking the pic", when your kids ask you why you arent in the family picture! There are several flash options and several focus options. I always use automatic on both because it is easier. The camera is also made to take pics well at night.(Theres a flash option for that). The viewfinder works great and right on, unlike other cameras where you take a pic of someones head and get them developed only to find that you took a pic of hid or her belly! Another plus to the camera is the style, it is small and compact yet made durable and looks great! It takes 4 AA batteries, when you put the film in it will not let you remove it until it is finished rewinding therefore avoiding you from taking it out when you still have pics left! The film is also drop in and drop out, no messing with loading or any [stuff] like that. Umm another thing thats neat is that the date stays on even even when the camera is off. Kodak is a great brand and honors warranties should anything happen to yours. I hope this help you out! Brandi

an honest review of this camera from an amateur photographer,

i was kind of nervous about buying a camera, and only had one set of criteria: that it not be a digital camera, because i'm not a fan of taking pictures with that kind of camera. So, while searching for cameras, i came upon this one. I liked it because i'm a junior in high school, and my prom was in a week, and i needed a camera small and light enough to not be a burden to take around. This matched that criteria, and after my dad, who is much more professional than I at photgraphy, agreed it was the best match for me, we bought it. i was actually worried, because i didn't have time to experiment with it before the prom. thankfully, the direction manual is easy to comprehend, as is the actual camera. i just got the pictures back, and i'm amazed at the superior quality, especially considering the low price of the camera. no red eye, no blurriness [except for a few outside, 2 or 3 out of 85], and all around excellence, indoors and outdoors. i reccommend this fantastic camera for everyone. buying this camera was the best decision i've made as an amateur photgrapher, and i think this model would also work for more experienced photographers as well.

This is a well built and adequately featured APS film camera that takes excellent pictures with no fuss. It has some nice touches, like a viewfinder that tells you which of the 3 APS settings is selected (if you've ever gotten a panoramic of something you meant to shoot in standard, you can appreciate what a boon this is) and a standard data imprint. It also encodes your settings for the film processor, which should eliminate some mistakes in developing. All in all, a great deal on a solid camera.

I bought this camera as an 'after birthday' birthday gift for my teenaged daughter. It has accompanied her to slumber parties, football games, school functions, and will go to the pool and on vacation next summer. So far she has had no complaints about either the camera or the pictures. The picture quality is far greater that the cost of the camera might suggest. I chose the camera because of the price and am very pleased with the quality. An added bonus is the ease of use--like most teenagers (and most adults, also) my daughter does not want to be bothered by complicated and unnecessarily hard to follow instructions. This camera gives the user neither.
