5.0 out of 5 stars No Better Camera for the Price, October 2, 2000
This review is from: Kodak DC215 Digital Camera w/ 2x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
This is the best camera I could find for the price. It has a 1 megapixel (1152x864) images size, true glass optics, and an optical 2x zoom. The colors are marvelous and the resolution very high for such a small camera. This camera is very flexible and easy to use with the Compact Flash cards it comes with. I have a 32MB cards and can store over 110 pictures at full resolution. Make sure you go to Kodak's website and look at some sample images taken with it. I highly recomend this camera for anyone wanting to get a first digital camera in the 1 mega-pixel resolution.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Consumer-level Camera, August 12, 2000

This review is from: Kodak DC215 Digital Camera w/ 2x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
I have taken over 1,000 pictures with this camera and have enjoyed great quality pictures and superior ease-of-use.

If you are looking for a camera that everyone in the family can use, does not cost a lot, produces excellent pictures, and you don't take most of your pictures in full sun, outside... please consider this low-cost alternative.

The picture quality is excellent for indoor or overcast outdoor pictures, but you pick up a lot of shadows when taking pictures of people in full sun. Landscapes and other wide shots in full sun look great.

To get a nicely framed portrait shot, you'll really need to zoom in AND get close to your subject(s). The default view is very wide (I think).

IF you use a service like Snapfish.com or Zing.com, you will be able to buy great looking prints of you digital pictures, that look almost as good as regular 35 mm pictures. (You only develop the pictures you REALLY like, so you'll find yourself saving a lot of money you otherwise might have spent on lousy pictures.

Zing.com is also a great way to share ALL your pictures with family or friends. Check out my albums under "cvheuvel" at Zing.com.

To make the most out of your purchase, please consider buying a larger CompactFlash card (48 MB for about $100) and a Flash Card Reader ($30). Also helpful is a set of rechargable AA batteries ($20). All extra expenses you need to consider.

Overall: GREAT camera!

4.0 out of 5 stars The D215 Millenium, June 26, 2001

This review is from: Kodak DC215 Digital Camera w/ 2x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
The Kodak DC215 is a great little camera. I have had mine now for over a year and I've got to say it was the best choice for an entry-level camera I could have made. I have taken over 2700 pictures since it's purchase and have learned a few things since I first snapped a shot in March 2000. First off, all the complaints that have been leveled on the battery usage are nonsense. The reason most people seem to have trouble running through lots of batteries is that they leave the LCD screen on. If you set the LCD to only review the shot you have just taken, you will find your battery life will extend dramatically. Secondly, I have found that any shots I have taken while the LCD is active loose some of their crisp quality. If you read reviews for any other digital camera on Amazon, you will find that most people complain about battery life So battery life is really a non-factor when choosing this camera. The quality of photos, especially indoor shots is fantastic. The outdoor shots, though, seem to be not quite as sharp as the indoor ones. I can't explain the reason for this, only that it happens. I use different online services for photo printing (Ofoto, Shutterfly) and my photo quality at 4x6 or 5x7 is great. 8x10's will be pixelated and not look that great, so stick to the smaller sizes. If 8x10's are a priority, go for a camera with a higher megapixel rating than this one. Overall, this camera is a great buy for someone who is looking for a little camera to take regular shots of friends and family for the internet or going to print smaller prints out.
