5.0 out of 5 stars Good Camera!
I just got this camera for christmas and I love it. I had no problem with the software. The pictures downloaded really fast onto the computer and the printer dock that came with it is awesome.

I was choosing a simple to use digital camera for my father. Kodak C633 came to my attention during the after Thanksgiving sale. It appears to be a slim down version of Kodak C643. They have almost identical characteristics. The only noticeable difference seems to be the internal memory size, 16 MB (C633) vs. 32 MB (C643).

It is a properly constructed little camera. The 2.4-inch LCD display should be relatively comfortable to view for senior people. The mode dial is clearly marked with just a few selected modes that are useful to most situations. The overall design is clean and uncluttered.

I took some pictures both indoor and outdoor. While the camera is really easy to shoot, some improvements are desirable. First thing I noticed after taking my first pictures with the camera is that solid colors in the images show a lot of noises. Its noise reduction is just not good enough even for a blue sky on a sunny day.

When taking indoor pictures, you will need to watch the lighting condition. Its auto focus has trouble to focus on object in the low light situation. (It has no auto focus assistance light.) Some times it failed to focus when the object lacks enough contrast. There are cameras in the same price range fare better in those situations.

If you can get a good bargain and can tolerate noises in the images, then you may find this camera a joy to use. But for me, I had to return it for something better.

3.0 out of 5 stars This thing eats batteries like crazy, August 28, 2007

I've gone through so many packages of batteries using this thing. And I don't use it that much. This thing just dies in no time flat.

The picture quality ranges from great to terrible. It depends on the lighting in the room. Bad lighting and the picture comes out all grainy and not worth keeping.

Video quality is also soso.

I guess it's a good camera if you're looking for something affordable that does average quality work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, but delicate!, June 11, 2007
This review is from: Kodak Easyshare C633 Digital Camera (Electronics)
I LOVED my Easyshare C633! The Auto focus was great and took better pics (on automatic focus mode) than friends' cameras which were more expensive. The only huge problem I had with it was that the LCD screen is so fragile. I returned my first (due to broken LCD screen) and had to trash the 2nd (for the same reason). Other than that, I'd say it's a great beginner camera, very user-friendly and easy to operate.

It sucks up batteries, though seems to work best with AA Energizer lithium. Rechargeable Duracell batteries are always good to have, since you'll rotate through them a lot.

By the way...I hope you never have to contact Kodak for help with any product, because the support people at Kodak are not very helpful and you have to jump through hoops to speak to an actual person on the phone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Lil Camera, January 7, 2007
This review is from: Kodak Easyshare C633 Digital Camera (Electronics)
I bought this a few weeks ago to upgrade from a 1.3/2 mp camera. It was easy to use right out of the box. The menu & dials are self explantory pretty much what you see on any point & shoot camera. It's internal memory is only 16mb so you will need at least a 512mb or 1gb card to take alot of pictures. But that's no problem since you can find them practically anywhere. You can plug the camera in to your pc or take the card out and put in a reader. Very easy.

It takes great pictures, I have even taken a picture in the dark to see how it would turn out and it was if the room was lit up. Great detail & no blur. Now of course not all pictures are going to turn out & I'm not claiming they will, but in playing around with it I'm very satisfied with the picture quality. Also, a nice 2.5 LCD screen + view finder.

All digital cameras eat batteries, it's a known fact. I have 1800 & 2500 NiMh batteries which will last longer than alkaline, however I also bought a crv3 lithium rechargeable with charger & have not had any problems with batteries since. (Be careful installing this battery, the door does not want to close easily and could be broken if not careful, however battery fits & works fine once you get it in.) I'm giving it four stars due to the battery door, could have been made better to accomodate batteries without strain.

Pictures are easily downloaded, software is easy to use. But if you are looking to edit pictures extensivly then a better software would be recommended.

Highly recommend this camera for beginners & novices alike.

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing, but not the worst, May 30, 2007
This review is from: Kodak Easyshare C633 Digital Camera (Electronics)
This camera is small enough to fit into your pocket or purse but not as compact as many of the smaller digital cameras on the market today. Not being too large or too small, this camera still has a bit of thickness; enough so that it would seem it should have a beefy grip, although it lacks that. This leaves the camera flat enough to easily slip into your purse or pocket but its small, square size and thickness render it somewhat awkward to grip causing fingers to naturally place in front of the camera flash.

The LCD is a nice size and the camera has a decent menu selection, but lacks the burst mode that so many of the other Kodak models sport. Also lacking is the Schneider - Kreunznach quality lens Kodak is known for. The camera has a quick start-up but there is an annoying lag between picture taking while the camera "processes", and then it gets worse.

Turning on the camera and shooting in "auto" can prove disappointing, as most pictures turn out either under or over exposed, grainy and over-saturated. Few pictures are satisfying, even when they look it on the LCD. To compensate for this, a manual adjustment of the exposure is nearly always needed, not to mention the other camera settings, and this takes just a bit too much time to capture a moment for many people. In fact, many "Kodak Moments" might be lost on the various adjustments that must be done to assure the potential decent capture. It is a good idea to practice using all of the settings on this camera so that you might gain a better idea of what setting to use in what condition per this camera, which is a lot to always expect for a point and shoot considering that most digital cameras automatically compensate, assuring decent point and shoot pictures.

If your lighting and all conditions are just right, you might shoot a decent enough picture; but when enlarged you will still be able to see the lesser quality of images, especially if you have an eye for detail. This may not be as important for general printing, especially in 4x6.

This camera does not have a quality lens which causes picture results to appear more interpolated to that 6 MP claim. The detail gets lost and the lack of high resolution is definitely noticeable. For a 6.1 MP camera by a known brand, I absolutely did expect better. But now that I have used this camera, I see that Kodak simply produced a low budget camera with some nice features that obviously didn't quite pan out, leaving this model to be resold as like new refurbs by so many discount outlets. This camera is highly affordable, though unreliable in the other respect.

It's not that one cannot achieve an acceptable picture with this camera, but more that one will miss many a good capture because of numerous compensation adjustments that will most always need to be made, and again - many pictures will lack that fine detail. This camera can be found online for as low as $60 to $79 which makes this model a more interesting purchase, especially if you shoot mainly landscape and such, and for anyone on a tight budget or willing to tolerate all else. However, I would not recommend this model for the family with active kids and pets or anyone wanting to capture any detailed picture in a hurry or on a whim. It has been unreliable for this, thought not impossible, and is too slow. It also has some issues with focus. Playing with the multi-zone and center-zone did give not give the results I'd hoped for, leaving parts of a picture still unfocused and the camera seemed to want to focus more on the background (say foliage) rather than a flower, or just one flower rather than two or even a grouping. The camera seems greard toward the color green leaving other colors somewhat lacking and sometimes more out of focus.

Video quality outdoors was fine and sound was good, but indoors the video was grainy. Before I purchased this camera (Kodak Easyshare C-633), I researched and those searches kept taking me to the Kodak Easyshare C-663, which I initially mistook for this model, thus purchased this one. The C-663 has a good review and nice features but could easily be mistaken for this model when researching with the too similar model numbers. As well, the cameras are nearly identical in looks but a side by side comparison shows the placement of the flash and viewfinder are reversed, that sets them apart in looks.

This camera did not do macro or handle detail very well, although close-ups can be taken, but don't let the 6 megapixels fool you. There are far better 6MP cameras and one might be better off buying a lesser megapixel, higher quality older Kodak model, if anything.

I purchased this camera for a teen but it turns out to be too cumbersome to use for his taste having no desire to make so many manual adjustments. He was not pleased with the camera overall but I played and played to find that one really can take nice pics with a lot of unexpected and unnecessary preparations for a point and shoot.

The camera had no problem with a 2 gig sd card but here's a tidbit about a card issue I had after I accidentally broke off the lock control, rendering the card write-protected and unreadable/writeable in any camera. My husband then dropped and lost the lock so I cut a small piece off a round wooden toothpick to place over the gap of the lock and used a good cellophane tape to secure that (tape thickness was an issue) and this "fixed" the overwrite making the card reusable once again while I search for a better fix. I found this camera online as a like new refurb (returned w/o much use or damage) for 60 bucks. Maybe lower pricing will make this camera more tolerable to many.

1.0 out of 5 stars Okay for the average snapshot, June 28, 2007
This review is from: Kodak Easyshare C633 Digital Camera (Electronics)
I got this camera for Christmas and I used it a lot (I'm a very avid photographer). It was okay for average, goofy snapshots but was horrid if you wanted a nice photograph or a photo of the winning hockey goal.

The LCD screen is very fragile and mine cracked, even though it was in it's case. Now when I turn the camera on it makes funny noises and the lens won't go back to it's "off" position.

I attempted to contact Kodak's service center but didn't get much help at all. So I decided to purchase a new camera from a name I have trusted with past digital cameras and past film SLR cameras: Canon.

Good ridden Kodak!

1.0 out of 5 stars Good Idea, Bad Execution, January 16, 2007

Camera WAS simple to use, but died 2 weeks after buying--screen is now only black and won't take picture. Instruction manual is a waste of paper. We'll see what Kodak says about warranty service.

Pics were ok, lots of red-eye and lots of blur if you were not still as a statue.

Screen could be brighter for outside use. Don't plan on using the LCD in the sun.

Lots of features on this camera, but appears it still needs some development work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kodak C633, December 27, 2006
This review is from: Kodak Easyshare C633 Digital Camera (Electronics)
Got this for Christmas, LOVE IT! While I may not be a camera expert, I love this little guy! Super cute, super small, there are probably smaller out there, but this fits in my smallest purses easily and that's all I really need. Easy to figure out, I didn't even read the manual until later Christmas night. I suppose if I thought of myself as a professional quality photographer, I would have something bigger, and more expensive with bells, whistles and a thing to go fetch the paper, but for a regular person just wanting to take snap shots of general things going on, I think this works well.

The batteries did run out pretty quickly, but then again, I was taking pictures of everything, playing with all the buttons and features, and batteries included with electronics are notoriously short-lived. I didn't bother with the software included; it doesn't have any really neat effects that I can't live without. I also might buy a memory card to save more pictures of assorted junk that I think I might need a picture of.

So, in conclusion, the camera is small, easy to figure out, and fun. The downside would be the short-lived batteries, the boring software, and lack of storage space. I'm just going to get some rechargeable batteries, a memory card, and maybe a photo-shop program. Finally, if you're a professional photographer, you should know better and have better equipment, but for a starter/novice/average person, I think this camera's great.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buy This Camera If You Want To Throw Your Money Away..., May 3, 2011
This review is from: Kodak Easyshare C633 Digital Camera (Electronics)
I've had this camera for a couple of years now and though it has never taken very good photos, it was good enough for the snapshots I take (not much of a photographer) though quite pricey at the time I bought it. I have never used it much but in the last year it intermittently refuses to turn on. It doesn't matter if I have fresh batteries in it or not. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. If I take the batteries out and put them back in that will sometimes get it to work. Regardless, Kodak knows about the problem as I am not alone with this issue but they are doing nothing about it. Frankly, I think Kodak has terrible low end and mid range products (I also have a Kodak AIO that I spent a fortune on that is hardly used and needs new printheads) and their customer service reps are in denial. I'm not sure why they call it "support." Once upon a time when I was young Kodak had one of the best reps around but not anymore. I will never buy their products again. I suggest that you get a better camera from Sony or Cannon. They're better quality for your money.
